Jealousy Support Group
Jealousy typically refers to the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that occur when a person believes a valued relationship is being threatened by a rival. This rival may or may not know that he or she is perceived as a threat. If you or a loved one may have an issue with jealousy, this community is a good place to start exploring the issue and get support. We're here for...
I talked with my boyfriend. I told him all these feelings. I said that I felt like these sex scenes, and huge amounts of female nudity, were basically like soft porn. Just because the media/film industry decides to put this in a movie (which what....doesn’t make it like porn?!...no, it is) I have to be ok with it? I told him I wasn’t. I said it literally breaks my heart to think that he would be getting any kind of satisfaction off another woman’s body. It just wasn’t right to me....it’s not what I want in my relationship. I don’t look at other naked me. So I said “all I ask is that you be mindful of what you’re watching and if there’s nudity, just skip that scene”. He was like, “ok, that’s totally doable! There’s been movies I haven’t watched because there was nudity in them, but I can do that. And if I want to watch anything I think is bothersome, I’ll talk to you first and see if you want to watch it with me”
Now, we have had a few deep conversations about my feelings around nudity, porn, and my feelings about the sexual objectification of women. So he knows my thoughts, feelings, wants, and needs very well. The entire time he has been very supportive, don’t get me wrong, he wasn’t restricting his viewing in any way before we got together or even in the beginning. It took me saying how I felt and WORKING for a compromise. I emphasize work, because it hasn’t been easy. It’s been very frustrating for him. My boyfriend is an avid movie watcher (bungee, I’d say haha) and he very much likes his independence and doesn’t like being “told what to do”. I had to take the approach of ‘this is how I feel, these are my boundaries, and this is what I need’. And remind him, it’s not about controlling him, that’s not what I want. I don’t want to feel this way either, but I need his respect and support through this.
I know this is a lot, and it would be easier said than written, but I hope it provides some help? And please, please, please, talk to me on here about this issue! I’ve struggled with it since I was 15 in EVERY relationship. I know WHY I feel this way, but I can’t make it go away. I can’t just be ‘ok’ with my boyfriend watching other naked women. And I think...that’s understandable. And that’s my boundary.
What’s your experience?
However some couples find watching porn together helps their sex life in my opinion is just a way to help fantasize about someone else I don’t find it helpful at all
