Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Support Group
Irritable bowel syndrome is a common intestinal disorder that is characterized by bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea, cramping, and constipation. Typically no abnormalities appear during standard medical testing, and so irritable bowel syndrome is identified by the symptoms. Although irritable bowel syndrome can cause serious discomfort, the intestines are not harmed.
I don't know If it would help everyone but from the online research I have been doing and still do this seems to be an effective way to help digestion and other issues. it is also great for constipation.
I take it sprinkled on my yogurt, others take it in a glass o hot water and wait for it to gel up and then drink it. they report that it helps to soften the stool and makes it easier to pass, some have reported great results........
I am so in love with slippery elm........it has changes my life!
Is there a particular brand you prefer?
I have also not tried the tablet/capsule/lozenge form. I remember when I first tried it years ago it was mentioned to me for the purpose I wanted to use it for that the powder was the best form as it will line and coat the colitis area and the stomach.
now truth be told here I am not sure which part is working for me, whether it be it is lining and coating the colitis area and helping to heal and or creating bulk within my insides ....like an added fibre would? to give the solid form and less D.
I buy my slippery elm powder from the health store. they sell it in bulk. I am in Canada and it is 10.98 per 100grams. I am using about a 100 grams per week. in comparison to other medications I have taken over the years this is cheap. plus I cannot put a price on ....peace of mind!
after all the years of suffering I have had, I am reluctact to sway from the way I am using it as it is working for as is.
I am curious about the tea, and I am thinking that might be a great benefit for people with constipation?? the warming liquid combined with the healing properties of the elm?
I am currently having a good heaped tea spoon with the yogurt still twice a day, morning and afternoon.
I did have a cup of coffee on Monday which created a very uncomfortable slightly bloated feeling! which leaves knowing I still cannot have coffee!!!.......Good luck and please post your results.
best wishes!!!
I only use the vanilla with no added fruit as that may add gluten or other hidden ingredients the fruit might be dusted in. I add my own fresh fruit.
I have zero ill effects from this yogurt and I LOVE the taste! it has a nice creamy texture.
Good Luck!!
for me it is still working.....this morning I had no yogurt to take it in and by 11am it was very noticeable that I was starting to not eel well, stomach cramps and that old familiar bloating , my friend even commented on how my stomach was starting to swell. quickly bought some yogurt and took the slippery elm, within about 30mins my symptons started to settle.....thank goodness!!! I will not miss another dose again!
I have read that having the powder in hot water and waiting for it to cool a bit can be helpful for constipation.
but as is always the way...what works for one...may not for another.....good..luck...I hope you find some relief...
I am doing so much better now, but still have not been cured and this leads me to think about how I am living my life and my lifestyle.
Now that my head is much clearer I realise how especially sick I have been the last few years. Seems I have had a flare up for about 3 years! meditation, exercise and especially relaxation are so important for me, stress stress stress is a huge trigger.
now in the last month I have had one flare up when I didn't take the elm in the morning and it left me bloated and feeling neauseated.
