Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Support Group
Irritable bowel syndrome is a common intestinal disorder that is characterized by bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea, cramping, and constipation. Typically no abnormalities appear during standard medical testing, and so irritable bowel syndrome is identified by the symptoms. Although irritable bowel syndrome can cause serious discomfort, the intestines are not harmed.
Sorry to hear you're dealing with constipation. It can be really frustrating. But I second 22Lynn on the warm glass of prune juice. It has worked well for me for years. I will warm a small glass of prune juice in a mug and drink it in the mornings and it always helps me go. If once a day is not enough, you can drink it twice a day as well. I have a sensitive stomach and this causes no cramping or gas pain for me.
I would also recommend a stool softener, like Ducolax (ducosate sodium). These are very gentle, but typically take a day or two to work.
I hope you find relief soon.
Adding fresh fruits and veggies and whole wheat plus lots of water seems to help too.
Right now I am drinking about two cups of prune juice. It is much better.
But I like the ideas presented here about drinking warm prune juice. I think I will try that.
I'm really getting to hate this "syndrome". I have so many other illnesses to deal with, but this one is awful at times. And those times seem to be getting more frequent.
I feel for all of us.
