Typically no abnormalities appear during standard medical testing, and so irritable bowel syndrome is identified by the symptoms. Although irritable bowel syndrome can cause serious discomfort, the intestines are not harmed.
Again.. Neurontin is used for pain.... don't think it would do much for anxiety. Are you seeing a Gastro doc?
From Wikipedia: "Gabapentin (Neurontin) is used primarily to treat seizures and neuropathic pain. It is also commonly prescribed for many off-label uses, such as treatment of anxiety disorders, insomnia, and bipolar disorder."
I'd consider eating dark greens like spinach, every day. I buy those pre-washed containers that make it easier to reach for. I put it in sandwiches, and make a salad for dinner, each evening. I mix up an easy tangy dressing of olive oil, lemon juice (instead of vinegar), green onion and sea salt, and it keeps things moving.
Also drinking plenty of water helps, and this is where I often slip. Apparently when we don't drink enough, our body pulls it from our waste, leaving stools dry and hard to pass.
I also have fruit like banana, kiwi, and grapefruit, with my oatmeal or cereal every morning, and coffee. Apparently hot liquids, coffee in particular, prompt muscles to react, and move things along.
