My guess would be that there are other antibiotics to treat E coli. Cipro seems to be the 'go to' drug for knocking out UTI s. I have not heard that Cipro can cause tendon and muscle damage, but it doesn't surprise me. These are tough drugs, especially for the over 60 gang, including myself. Drill your doctor and see if he/she can't choose another drug.

Last year I ended up in the hospital with a UTI infection. Once they figured out that I had Psedomonous (spelling.) the only drug that would be effective was Levoquin. I learned that it is considered a 'black box' drug. This means that side effects are prevalent and serious. I had no choice at the time so I endured the horrendous side effects rather than ending up in the morgue. My tendons were so badly damaged that it took me all year to get better. I could not lift my arms for months. Getting dressed was next to impossible. Getting on a bra was grueling. Eventually things did improve but it was not easy.

You may find yourself in a situation where you have no choice, but just make sure that there are no other choices.

I have had uti's ever since I got married, and a few yrs ago had the bladder sling and now I seem to get a uti every other month. I ordered the country side magazine because my husband likes everything about gardening etc.. well just got this months issue a week ago, and low and behold it had a woman discussing her cat's uti and mentiond a natural remedy that helped after vets failed it's for humans too. It's called D-mannose and it's all natural. I ordered some off amazon, and can't wait to see if it helps. It should be here any day now, hopefully tomorrow. Look up forums on it, that's what I did they all seem to have nothing but good things to say about it. I mention uti's to my friends and they don't seem to hurt as bad as I do when I get them. I hope this info helps. Honestly I'm not advertizing for it because I haven't tried it yet. I'm praying it helps me. My doc. is sending me to a urologist, and I think I'll tell her to hold off to see if this works.
