Interstitial Cystitis (IC) is a urinary bladder disease of unknown cause characterised by pelvic and intense bladder pain, urinary frequency (as often as every 10 minutes), and pain with urination. It is not unusual for patients to experience nocturia and pain with sexual intercourse. IC is also known as painful bladder syndrome (PBS), particularly outside of the USA.
Hi all. I was diagnosed about 6 years ago via cystoscopy. At first I had lots of pain and was put on Elmiron. I took that for about a year and then just stopped. I've noticed over the last year or so that my symptoms have gotten a lot better. I find myself reaching for my Azo less and less. I used to be the type that would get a bladder infection every couple months, but it's been about a year since the last one now. *knock on wood* I can't remember the last time I had any pain at all it's been so long. Is this some type of remission? I'd like to think it's gone for good but I won't kid myself.
She mentioned that it can linger quietly and without many symptoms and therefore is a good idea to carefully monitor what you eat around the time of the pain.
