Interstitial Cystitis (IC) Support Group
Interstitial Cystitis (IC) is a urinary bladder disease of unknown cause characterised by pelvic and intense bladder pain, urinary frequency (as often as every 10 minutes), and pain with urination. It is not unusual for patients to experience nocturia and pain with sexual intercourse. IC is also known as painful bladder syndrome (PBS), particularly outside of the USA.

Have any of you had a bad reaction to TENS? I tried it on Monday with my physical therapist... immediately got a HORRIBLE headache, lower backache and my IC pain/lower-abdominal muscle pain got worse and worse. It was horrible. I have tried to google any kind of bad reaction/side effect documented for TENS, but there doesn't seem to be any! This sucks because I was really looking forward to it because of how many of you have been helped by it.
On another note, I have been using something called an IFC that also uses electrical stimulation and it is helping quite a bit. So far, it is helping reduce the pain slightly, reduce the swelling/inflammation A LOT and, strangely (I'm in medical menopause to mitigate the return of endometriosis) the natural lubrication of my vagina. I have only used it for a week so far, but so far so good. I hope it helps my pain more than it currently is in the long run, but ya you may want to check it out/try it.

I'm so sorry that the TENS isn't working for you. I use a TENS unit everyday and it helps me relax and sleep. But I notice that if I leave the unit on for too long, it can cause me to flare. I'm glad that the IFC is helping you, I'll have to look into that. I'm so glad that it is helping you with the pain. It's great to have relief! Keep us posted. Good luck. :)
