Interstitial Cystitis (IC) Support Group

Interstitial Cystitis (IC) is a urinary bladder disease of unknown cause characterised by pelvic and intense bladder pain, urinary frequency (as often as every 10 minutes), and pain with urination. It is not unusual for patients to experience nocturia and pain with sexual intercourse. IC is also known as painful bladder syndrome (PBS), particularly outside of the USA.

New diagnosis but not new symptoms

I am 32 years old and have had bladder issues for years. Finally in october they did a bladder scope and it caused more pain than they expected. They came to the conclusion of IC. First i tried Oxybutinin and had an allergic reaction landed in the ER, then i tried tropsium clouride and that one casued pain so bad i was in tears untill it wore off (took it 3 days), now i am on the last med they said there is to try, detrol ER. It does help, its not perfect but instead of having to go every say 20 to 45 mins its every 1 to 3 hours and pain is still there but more manageable. They said they do not want me doing the physical thearpy for it because of my PTSD issues, i was going to try it anyways but changed my mind. They said normally you are not diagnoised when your as young as i am, is there anyone else out there around my age? JUst wondering how unusual it is.

I was diagnosed at 14 years old. I'm now 37. I have gone through multiple doctors, treatments, and medications. All of these were not helpful. I was in my gynecologit's waiting room and saw a pamphlet that outlined our disease. It explained how diet effects symptoms. I have been following these guidelines for about 10 years, and currently have minimal pain and flare ups. It no longer runs my life. You can help yourself more than any physician!

I was diagnosed at 38 after chemotherapy and have found the diet, baking soda, loose clothing and Codeine for the more painful days. The chemotherapy affected my bladder more because I had a lot of bladder infections as a child. Hope this helps. This condition can be very frustrating.

The meds stopped working for me. I am debating on trying one last one or not mirbexta? Not sure how to spell it. I see my urologist next week. I get a lot of side effects though. I have yet another bad uti they said the one from a month ago must of never gone away. I just got out of the hospital for my heart. Day one they found the UTI they gave me a large dose shot of gentamyacin and cirpo pill, next day iv of levaquin and then im still on the cipro for 10 days. I am so sick of pills and infections :(
