Interstitial Cystitis (IC) is a urinary bladder disease of unknown cause characterised by pelvic and intense bladder pain, urinary frequency (as often as every 10 minutes), and pain with urination. It is not unusual for patients to experience nocturia and pain with sexual intercourse. IC is also known as painful bladder syndrome (PBS), particularly outside of the USA.

Hi everyone,

I am in a ridiculous flare right now. Usually when I'm in a flare (inner bladder flare) I just eat very bland foods, my safest foods. For the first time, those are making my pain A LOT worse. Skim lactose free milk is something that I always have but I had it last night and caused me searing pain. I had a slice of toast (safe organic no preservatives or additives or soy or anything bad) this morning and it killed me. What is going on?

I'm worried that I'm getting new sensitivities... please help!

Are you doing anything new that I suggested? Vitamins, yoga?

Have you tried any Barley powder products? I get AIM Barley life and it has a tremendous healing and alkalizing effect and is usually immediate. If you want some let me know, my mom can get you an account# to order it.

Maybe it's not the food. I get terrible flares from hormones(ovulation or right after or right before my period) or stress. If I don't pay really close attention to my cycle...i might also be blaming food.

Hi Kat, I agree, maybe it's not the food. Maybe it could be stress, anxiety or hormones. Lately, I've been eating very "safe" foods also and still have horrible pain. I started going to acupuncture and it's been helping a little. I also have a pain management doctor who prescribes me Vicodin monthly to help with horrible flares. I hope that you feel better soon. Hi ladies,

My bladder is definitely reacting to food because the pain increases minutes after I have something. I don't know what caused it but I know that it's irritating it. I sometimes get flares from stress but they are not inner bladder but the surrounding area. I wish I could blame it on hormones but I'm in induced menopause so don't have those fluctuations that other young women do. I'm still trying to figure it out and hope it goes away really really soon! THanks for your support!

To answer your question Traceyah, I did start the Vitamin 3 :) Thank you for that great suggestion and I hope it's not what gave me the flare!!!
