Interstitial Cystitis (IC) Support Group

Interstitial Cystitis (IC) is a urinary bladder disease of unknown cause characterised by pelvic and intense bladder pain, urinary frequency (as often as every 10 minutes), and pain with urination. It is not unusual for patients to experience nocturia and pain with sexual intercourse. IC is also known as painful bladder syndrome (PBS), particularly outside of the USA.

The next step my gyno wants to take involves a Heparin distillation. Is this supposed to be helpful in diagnosing IC? Has anyone been through this? Apparently the only anesthetic involves lidocaine.

My installations consist of lidocaine, heparin, kenalog, and bicarb. I'm not sure exactly what the heparin does but I think it's a blood thinner, so maybe it makes the blood flow easier around the bladder. This cocktail has been good for me and numbs my pain very well.

Thanks ! I found out that it can be useful as a treatment for soothing and healing the blader lining. This would be great if I had been properly diagnosed . Time to see a doc who will do a cystoscopy.

The lidocaine and heparin installs didn't help me but maybe they could work for you, after you find out the results of the cystopscopy. Good luck and I hope everything goes well for you. :)

Heparin is in my injection (via catheter) in combination with my rimso and decadron (sp wrong) every other week.

Installations aren't necessarily as scary as they sound :) although I did take a vicodin before going to my doc for it and had my husband drive me there and back. It definitely helped.

After the first couple of times, she taught me to do them myself which also eases anxiety and any discomfort because you are in control.

This is now a standard treatment for me at home and takes only a few minutes of my day with no need for anything like vicodin at all as there is no pain but I am thankful to have tried it and found what works for me.
