Interstitial Cystitis (IC) is a urinary bladder disease of unknown cause characterised by pelvic and intense bladder pain, urinary frequency (as often as every 10 minutes), and pain with urination. It is not unusual for patients to experience nocturia and pain with sexual intercourse. IC is also known as painful bladder syndrome (PBS), particularly outside of the USA.

I have taken Elmiron for along time, it has really helped me. I also take prelief when eating highly acid foods. It took almost 4 months before the pain eased off from horrible pain I was having with bladder and frequency of going to bathroom and the burning was miserable. So for me Elmiron really helped and still is working with only 1 capsule a day. The cost is very high, but worth not having the terrible pain. Hope you have good results with it.

Hello folks,

I had good success with Elmiron but it did take a while to work. I also upped the dosage to as much as 900 milligrams a day (with my doctors approval) and that seemed to help it work faster. I didn't have any side effects from it (unlike the Ditropan XL I took, which was mostly a constant dry mouth).

I would encourage everyone to give it a shot. It doesn't work for all, but why put off trying it if it takes a while to be effective anyway, you know?
