Beware of medications, supplements, or any taking any product if you don't have an identifiable medical or psychiatric issue disrupting your sleep and are not under the care of a medical professional.
Many sleep experts take the position that these only treat the symptom (sleep), and not the true underlying root of the problem. If you have primary insomnia, the solution is often within your own self-control.

I've had some limited success with trazodone and Elavil, the lower the dose the better. Remeron is an antidepressant that will help you sleep but you'll likely gain lots of weight.
In my opinion and I am not a health professional, medication should be used as a last resort. Exercise, diet, avoiding television, cell phones and computers 90 minutes before bed has helped me. Avoid caffeine if possible. Keep in mind that most medications used for sleep have a lot of side effects.
