Insomnia Support Group
Insomnia is a symptom, rather than a disease, and is characterized by inadequate quantity or quality of sleep. People with insomnia complain of difficulty falling or staying asleep, which results in significant impairment of daytime functioning. Insomnia is categorized as transient (shorter than one week), short-term (one to three weeks) or chronic (longer than three...
Insomnia will sneak up and get you when you least expect it. I was having it last night after my boyfriend and I got in a fight and had to take my Saphris and force myself to lie down and fall asleep as I was so keyed up from fighting.
DS has a group for family and friend sou cancer patients which may help you. I would link here but I'm having trouble with search right now.
but ...
Allowing yourself to get int he "fuck it" mode, allowing yourself to indulge in intensely negative emotions, feeding all that, does absolutely nothing to make anything better.
there are better ways to vent. Healthier ways. And better ways to help yourself sleep. I think at some level you know that.
I know what you mean about having to really micro manage your life around sleep. If I vary my sleep routine, I just won't sleep well.
You've got a lot on your mind. I'm glad you decided to come here to vent.
I'm sorry to hear of you're news, like some of the others that have commented my mother was also diagnosed with uterine cancer 3 years ago, it felt like my world had just fallen apart at the time (mothers are precious). However my mother had successful surgery and has been in remission since. Therefore, remember that there are options and solutions and there is treatment.
Also like Hypnos said try to look at things from different angles, as often when we are in a negative frame of mind the only person that suffers is ourselves and our health (talking from past experience.
Sometimes coming through tribulations builds our character and gives is insights and depths that maybe we may not otherwise have had.
I wish you're mother a good recovery. And yes we are all here to support each other so keep us posted.
sorry to hear that.
Well, sometimes we have to FUCK those damn things out there. Yes, FUCK the insomnia. Take some massive action to FUCK those thing that trying to FUCK you upside down in life.
Yes the effects of insomnia are horrible but I think part of what fuels the emotional outbreaks is that I feel frustrated at not being able to solve this problem.
I think it will be a lot of work but over time I will get back to the old me. I think thinking back to when things got really bad is the first step to solving the problem. I think things got really bad around 10th grade. I used to never really have a problem talking in front of people and then the first day of 10th grade I felt like I was going to have a heart attack in debate class. I never would have signed up for that class if I thought I was going to feel that way. The teacher even told me I looked really nervous.
I don't know exactly what happened but I think from 7-9th grade I grew into a deep depression because of my back and then pretty much forgot how to socialize and by high school it had gotten even worse. Therefore I think my main problems relate to social, mental, and self esteem problems. I haven't dated in years. I think I kind of want to be in a relationship but I don't think i'm mentally stable enough because of my current sleep deprived version of me and because I don't want to be in a deep relationship and have something happen that causes me not to graduate or end up with a job I actually want. I'll also be honest that I just don't have many friends. I don't make them very easily probably a large degree due to this insomnia.
I think the realistic approach to this is that while it would be ideal to somehow get more social/do things with other people more often, I don't need to as long as I'm actually being productive. I think filling my day basketball working out, fishing, work, and school along with possibly other things should make me more happy where I will sleep better. What I mainly need to work on doing is possibly getting more hobbies, becoming more decisive(doing homework quicker and things like that), become less perfectionistic(about grades/etc), and quit telling myself I don't have time to do something.
I usually end up doing a few hours of stupid shit a day like browsing the internet for the same things because I'm procrastinating doing homework because its either boring or I think it's hard and I'm being indecisive. No more of that. I think getting more hobbies is the most important thing to fill in my days, particularly weekends/days off. I've been wanting to start kayaking and canoeing but finances have been holding me back. If I could pick up a decent paying part time job again then maybe I could be one. Other than that I'm not sure if I could get back into art again or what other hobbies I could develop. Identifying them is the hardest part of the job.
