Insomnia is a symptom, rather than a disease, and is characterized by inadequate quantity or quality of sleep. I know exactly what you mean by the wide awake hell.
I know you don't want to be lectured on the sleep restriction route.... and I completely understand.
I'm a 35 year old guy with a wife and a 9 month old son.
Never before in my life have I struggled with insomnia. I want so bad for it to just go back to normal. But it doesn't appear to be doing that any time soon.
So I do the sleep restriction route. Against all of my desires I do the sleep restriction. And you know what? It's kind of working. I haven't been doing it consistently enough or regimented enough. But the flimsy model of it that I'm using (and hoping to get more regimented with it) does seem to be working.
From Feb 13th up until very recently there would be nights where I would get no more than an hour's worth of sleep. Sometimes much less than that. But now I'm probably at least getting 4-5 broken hours of sleep.... which is vastly better. And again, I've only been trying this method for the past couple of weeks.... and during those weeks there have been times I've slipped off completely.
Either way, best of luck and you'll be in my prayers.
You have to be strong and know that it's going to get better. Reduce stress, find the root cause and that will help.
