Insomnia Support Group
Insomnia is a symptom, rather than a disease, and is characterized by inadequate quantity or quality of sleep. People with insomnia complain of difficulty falling or staying asleep, which results in significant impairment of daytime functioning. Insomnia is categorized as transient (shorter than one week), short-term (one to three weeks) or chronic (longer than three...
I'm sorry to hear that insomnia is hitting you hard. First of all, I am going to tell you that YOU WILL get that natural tired feeling again. I promise you.
I too, lost that tired feeling for a very long time. (much longer than you, but I never gave up)
Do you remember how you lost it? I do. I was taking some medication and then one day... I just wasn't tired anymore. What I didn't realize was, I was very tired, exhausted in fact but I just couldn't tell.
I had no idea that I had run so low on Adenosine that there wasn't enough to make me tired. (Adenosine is the stuff in your brain that makes you tired. You drink coffee and the caffeine in coffee blocks Adenosine, so that you do not feel tired. Get it?)
So, then, you may be thinking... well, how the heck does anyone increase their Adenosine levels? This part is amazing and you may or may not believe me but heck... do your own research anyway.
You get Adenosine from the break down of Adenosine Triphosphate. So, where the heck did Adenosine Triphosphate come from? Adenosine Triphosphate comes from Adenosine when you are sleeping. Yes.... during the wake cycle, you burn ATP and ATP turns in to ADP (Adenosine diphosphate) and then it further breaks down to just Adenosine (accumulate enough Adenosine and you start to get tired and sleepy; then you go to sleep). During the sleep cycle, your system converts Adenosine back to ADP and back to ATP (when you don't have enough Adenosine left, you wake up. It's called the ATP cycle.
So, couldn't you just go exercise until you get tired? Not according to you. In your OP, you said that it seems impossible for "me to tire myself out anymore." If this is true, then, I am guessing that.... you are low on the sugar Ribose and probably other supporting vitamins. Ribose is what fuels ATP. When you are really low in Ribose/ATP, your system can switch its power source. That way, you are now burning something else besides ATP to keep your system going.
What would I do?
I would get off of all drugs safely, with the help of my doctor.
I would take a small amount of Ribose (300mg to 500mg) in the morning with a good quality vitamin b-complex and a 500mg Glutamin (another type of sugar, Glutamin is to help you recover). Then, wait.
In my experience, I found that you do not need to do this everyday. I found that if I did do this everyday, it would actually keep me awake. You see, the idea here is to have a good balance. too low and you have insomnia. too much and you have insomnia.
I am going to leave you with 2 youtube videos. One video shows Adenosine and the effects on your brain. One video shows the ATP cycle.
