Sleep meds are addictive if you take them for a long period of time. I was on temazepam which is generic for Restoril. A very potent sleep med/ sedative. It litteraly knocks you out cold. I was on it for like 6 months straight and had to quit cold turkey the day before aknee surgery. Wouldnt have been wise to mix sleep meds with vicodin. I went through hell coming off the sleep meds. I didnt sleep for 3 days straight. My sleep was screwed for a coupe of months then it slowly got better. but as of lately it got worse and ask for a refil of my sleep med from my doctor, Now i just take it off and on and not on a dialy basis so i wont form an addiction. This med leave you sedated basically for the whole day. It's so strong.
But anyhow be careful with sleep meds if you do go on it. Might not hurt to try for at least a week to kick start a normal sleep rythem.
Have you tried natural sleep remedies that are much safer and non addictive like Melatonin and valerian root which you can buy at any market and health food store? Might want to try those before moving on to the hardcore sleep meds.
Is something triggering your insomnia? Mine is depression, axiety, and work related stress. Try working out, go for a jog or do some form of cardio where it will exhaust your mind and body so you can sleep better.
recently i had my worst ever spells of insmnia now im traozdone and ive slept 6 and sometime 8 hours for 5 days..
doesnt work for everyone but its not addictive, and its an anti depressant/sedative if it keeps working for me then its a wonder drug..only time will tell
ive always had insomnia but it got pretty bad awhile ago. My doctor prescribed me lunesta which is suppossed to be none habit forming. I took it for a year and was able to ween off with no trouble. Now I just take it "as needed" so if i cant fall asleep i take some, but most of the time i dont need it. its great :D. but yeah its supossed to be one of the least habit forming sleep aids
