Infidelity Support Group
Any relationship in which one partner engages willfully in sexual relations with another outside of the partnership is considered to have experienced infidelity. This breach of trust is often traumatizing for the faithful partner as well as the relationship, and support is often needed to heal emotionally and to decide whether or not the relationship should continue after...
I have thought about it before in the past when times were really hard things have been a lot better.
If the person is up to the same thing then yeah I'd understand why you would feel you aren't moving forward like you would like to. Yeah seeing them will remind us, but that will start to fade and not be as powerful in time. It will help if they are trying to fight and work on the marriage with you.
I'm not a big fan of letting time tell... :(
Chewdy, I'm glad your H has finally seen the light! I've heard that movie is good.
I think if the cheater owns what they did, is truly remorseful and willing to go to the mat for the relationship then the betrayed can heal and the marriage relationship can also heal and become stronger. However, if the cheater wants to shift blame to the betrayed or bury and ignore what they did then I beleive the betrayed is far better off going it alone and moving forward to find a more mature and complete partner. The cheater's often just want to ignore what they have done an have things get back to normal. They won't. It has to be faced honestly again and again and again until the betrayed partner has been allowed to work through their pain and rebuild the trust that was lost. It can't be ignored. It happened. You can't "not talk" about it. It happened! If the betrayed needs to talk about it every day for 300 days or more then the cheater needs to listen and take it. If they are not willing to do whatever it takes for the healing to happen then it is not worth staying. It just isn't.
No matter what the issues in the marriage may have been, the betrayed never deserved it and deserves way better. I truly beleive it can be worked out but it depends solely on the couple and espcially on the mindset of the cheater. Just my two cents.
I guess it comes down to whether you feel they're doing what it takes. If I felt that, then I'd feel good about working through it.
I guess they can't do what it takes if they don't understand what was done. If they choose to ignore that, then they won't understand what it takes... ugh.
I can't be sure if my W just has no understanding or just doesn't care enough.
I dred the time and agony I'm going to go through in finding out which it is. And if it's that she doesn't have enough understanding, how much more time and agony will there be in gaining it...
There is so much confusion inside of me that I often wonder if I'd have saved myself a great deal by bring closure to the cause of it a long time ago.
I feel the same way. My H doesn't take responsibility for what he's done, just wants to move past the consequences. He actually said last week "You just need to get over it!". Like I can just forget it ever happened and live happily taking complete care of him until it happens again! As if!
Well, I don't know what to do either.
Jes, I always thought I'd leave too. In fact, my W knew I left my previous relationship b/c of infidelity. To me that says she knew what she was risking and slapped me in the face anyway. I don't know why I'm still here, I certainly don't feel that same type of love like you're talking about.
Evisor8d, I wish I had your tough ego :)
Maggie, Ouch! At least my W pretends... or maybe that makes it worse on me... to me that's cold and shows blatant ignorance.
You have to be satisfied with the strides your spouse is taking to make it up to you and you have to be able to forgive her. I think only then it will be a success.
I'm working on part 2.
