Hi! I'm feeling pretty good today. I had my second IUI last Saturday and we were very busy after! I am trying to think positively here but I'm also trying to not get excited. I keep reminding myself that what is meant to be will be here. I was so disappointed after my first clomid and IUI cycle. I just thought it would work. In my head if everything was aligned with me and my husbands numbers were off the charts then BOOM, pregnant! My doctor didn't tell me that the statistics are pretty low for any IUI cycle to work, especially the first one. She told me that clomid and IUI were the best first steps. We've been trying for 16 months, I jumped straight in and probably should have asked more questions.
I do feel very lucky that my insurance covers up to 15k in treatments. However, they require 6 clomid IUI cycles before they'll pay for anything else. 6 clomid and IUI cycles sounds pretty awful to me. I think that I could do around 3 of them but after that I'm just not sure. All of this could be for not because maybe this one worked. who knows! Either way, I am so grateful to have any coverage in this area, I know that a lot of plans don't offer it.
I have my follow up appt with my doctor mid April to discuss where we've been and IVF. At that point, I'll be around my fertile window for cycle 3 of clomid and IUI. I'm also not sure how long the prep period is for IVF so I guess we'll find out. I want to be as well informed as I can be.
So we're in the waiting game of potentially being pregnant and of future options. This is not at all how I thought getting pregnant would be but I know that I'm learning and there's a reason for this journey. I'm trying to go about my everyday life and patiently wait. I think I'm about 8 days away from a pregnancy test. I do feel like I'm mentally in a better place than the first cycle and reacted/dealt with being on clomid this cycle much better. I'm staying hopeful but realistic! I am hoping for pregnancy but I will be less let down this time around.
I just wanted to share this in hopes that someone can relate, maybe some can share good vibes, and just to get it off my chest. I've talked to very few friends about this because I don't think they understand. I also look at my friendships differently right now too. Maybe it's this journey but I'm noticing who is really there for me and who is not. Anyway, I hope if you read this you are having a beautiful day!
Casey this was my second clomid/ IUI process. My doctor sent the script for clomid and I took it days 3-7. Once I had a positive ovulation kit they did the IUI the next day. They recommend that you have sex that night and the following day after the IUI. We did that this past cycle and now we’re pregnant! We only had sex the night after the first IUI and not the following day. I’m not sure if that’s why the first didn’t work but listen to your doctors!! All the best to you!
