I had success on #3 but the first two times our embryo quality was so bad that we had nothing to transfer. I'd encourage you to keep trying and keep pushing your doctor to find a reason for failure rather than advising you to move on. I don't see how an egg donor could help if you had no issue with embryo quality. Granted, quality that the lab estimates visually isn't the same as genetically healthy embryo but in that case your RE should advise you to do a PGD (preimplantation genetic diagnosis) to check if your embryos are good rather than blindly push for donor eggs. Now what you should also know is that the cost for a donor is similar as cost of PGD so perhaps he wants to make sure you pay for a good chance of getting a baby rather than just for getting a diagnosis but I'd be unable to move on if I didn't know for sure why things didn't work with my eggs. How about getting a second opinion? These are usually affordable to get - you just take copies of your chart to other RE and ask what he'd do differently. This really helped many of my friends decide what to do. Good luck!

Also, if you have PCOS I think high LH at the beginning of your cycle could harm embryo quality. Talk to your doc how to lower it. It's been a while now since I did IVF so I'm not sure I remember correctly but I think Prednisone (low dose steroid) could help there.

Thanks Kaja! This RE is our 2nd opinion. I might go for a 3rd. He is saying that at this point it has to be something microscopic that cannot be seen either with uterus, egg, or sperm. Prior to our 3rd round, I am going to take Lupron Depot which is supposed to "re-boot" my uterus. If that does not work, then we know it is not a uterus issue, and that is why then we may need to consider moving onto third party options. I do have mild PCOS, but when they visualize my eggs they are all good and fair quality. Same with our embies. It does not add up to me either. With round #2, I took Metformin and am continuing it now for the 3rd. I am trying to stay optimistic since we do not have anything saying it will not work, but it is really tough! I did 5 rounds of IVF before I had success. I am convinced that a uterine biopsy that I had was what made all the difference. Having a uterine biopsy during the cycle before doing IVF can double your chances of success. This study can be found at a site called israel21c. I also know two other women who conceived after doing the biopsy- one through IVF with donor egg and one naturally. I feel it is worth a try it certianly wont hurt your chances and may help. I have a friend on her 5th IVF, they were doing doing serogacy on her sister, the dr decited to put 3 in her and 2 in her sister. Well her sister got preg with 1 and my friend all 3 took, She now has 4 babies. they are 56 months old. Good Luck

Hi there! I had 3 failed IUI's AND 3 FRESH IVF cycles that all failed. Our last shot was our FET in July 2010 with our frozen embryos from cycle 1 and 3. I am now 19 weeks pregnant with twins. Praying things continue to stay positive and healthy. Both my boyfriend and I had every test done. He had a SCSA test done on his sperm too. For our FET we were both on antibiotics fro two weeks, Let me add I am 41 and these embryos were from when I was late 39 and 40. I would look into PGD testing as well. Don't give up!

I'm in exactly the same boat, which is why I clicked on this post. I have mild PCOS (no visible symptoms, not diabetic or overweight, have kind of long cycles, but not crazy long), but no other real barriers. I am almost 38 now, so not a spring chicken, but everything else looks good. We've tried Clomid, IUI, and two IVF's that have failed. I'm really wanting to hear some PCOS success stories. We'll be doing our 3rd cycle in January, too.

Last time my doctor changed our drug protocol, and this time she's changing it again. We had better results the last time and hopefully this time we'll get it right (fingers crossed). KMinCA, has your doctor adjusted your meds each time? It seems like it can make a huge difference.

I had two fresh transfers, one BFN and a chemical pregnancy. I also had a FET which also ended in a chemical pregnancy. This last time, I opted for a natural FET. My lining was 8 mm when doing a medicated cycle and 11 mm natural cycle. Also, I got checked for antibodies and blood clotting issues, which I tested negative for. However, my RE put me on baby aspirin and heparin to help with implantation and sustaining a pregnancy, and this time it worked! I'm just about 6 weeks pregnant. I would definitely look into how your lining was at trasfer and talk to your doctor about the blood thinners, it made all the difference with me...

Sweettooth1 - My RE changed drug regimens with our 2nd fresh cycle. With our 1st round, I overstimulated and had 22 eggs which resulted in 8 embies. 2nd round, maybe a little understimulated and had 8 eggs, 5 embies. Hoping that 3rd time they get it just right! My PCOS sounds very similar to yours. My RE does have me on Metformin for it. Would love to hear other PCOS success stories as well! Wishing you lots of luck in Jan!!

Courage2010 - Congratulations on your BFP!!! My lining is usually about 10, but I will talk to my RE about natural cycles. I was also tested for antibodies and clotting issues, and all was normal. I have taken baby Aspirin with all my cycles, but will also ask about Heparin.
