Hi ladies - not sure if this has been brought up previously (I'm sure it has) but, I am driving myself nuts with research this morning. We were given a high chance of success to begin with , I am 27 and my only issue is a blocked tube which doesn't matter with IVF, and they never mentioned down sides of MFI even though I asked "Are there any higher risks during pregnancy, such as m/c, genetic defects etc."

Anyways, this morning I was reading about MFI and I'm seeing trends of a lot of BFP but m/c with MFI - those of you who are going through this for MFI please share your stories with me....it may help get through the next week!! (to my beta)

I don't see how low sperm count of motility could affect m/c rates. I do know there is some research out there that implies that lowmorphology can affect the quality of the DNA, hence increasing the m/c rate. BUT, I talked to my RE a lot about this when my DH was diagnosed with severely low morphology and we were gearing up for IVF with ICSI. She said even thought the sperm is mishshappen, as long as the DNA is intact, it has the same chance of fertilizing and implanting and being a successful pregnancy as any other sperm. It worked for us! I am now 19 weeks:)
even if the issue is low count or motility, it's all about the DNA to create an embryo that's going to make it. Even if studies suggest a higher m/c rate, maybe it's because of the number of people who can ONLY get pregnant with IVF and therefore the numbers are skewed?

I guess I just assumed when we went into this that as long as the egg was fertilized that the sperm MUST be good and I felt like once the embryos were created and had proven themselves capable of cell division that we were "in the clear" so to speak. I have been told over and over by all 3 REs in our office (of course a different one was there for each u/s!) that my uterine lining looks very promising for implantation. I think I was just SO positive through most of this (even though I've had awful side effects from each bit of it) that now that I'm sitting here with the embryos in my uterus...I'm scared to death they aren't capable of creating a viable pregnancy because I feel like that is the only hump to get over now..

Thank you again for the reassurance - sometimes that is all you need!

I agree with goldennote. My husband has severe morpholgy problems, his last SA showed zero normal sperm. We have a 2 1/2 year old that took us 2 years to concieve on our own and we have been trying again. I had no issues during pregnancy and have a happy healthy child. Good luck, miracles can really happen even when the odds are against you.
