I saw my RE today and am preparing to do IUI #3. I didn't have to take any drugs or stims before my first 2. My cycles were both normal and the follicles grew normally. Overall, the RE has been really happy with my numbers each month. Today is day 10 and there is no follicles at all, which is unusual for me. I had a long period and it just ended, so I'm wondering if maybe that's why? I have to go back to RE on Friday for another sono and bloodwork and they said I might need clomid this month. I am feeling concerned that RE said my follicle growth should be better by now and its not. I'm a little freaked out since up to this point, everything went so smoothly. Anyone have any experience or insight on this? Or even just some reassurance would help! :) Thanks!

It may just be too early in your cycle sense your period just ended (did your period really last 9 days?) But even if you still don't have any follicles this month, clomid would provide you with more mature follicles, not just one, wnich will increase the odds for an IUI. Have you ever heard of femera? It does what clomid is supposed to do, but doesn't have as many negative side effects. I have taken both clomid and femera (letrozole is the generic), and clomid had some wicked side effects and not work, where as letrozole had NO side effects (actually, strangely, made me want to BD more!) And I had three big ripe follies at my last visit. Anyway, don't worry about not having any follicles yet, and maybe taking a fertility drug will increase your chances anyway. Good luck!

Hmmm...I usually don't have follicle scans until day 12. Maybe it is just too early?

Some months are just weird. I would pause if there isn't growth and look for another month and save the $$---follow your heart.

I don't mature eggs on my own, so I take letrozole. But during my last IUI, my sono at day 11 showed that my uterus and follicles looked they were only on day 3, and that was even after 5 days of meds. The first round I responded perfectly, so I didn't understand how it could've happened. They told me to start my meds over like I was actually on day 3 and come back in a week for another u/s. I had 4 very large follies! I was so ecstatic, and dreamed of having twins! Ultimately it was a bust, didn't work, but I did experience a weird cycle of really late follie growth. Like momma said, i recommend letrozole because the results are a little better with much less side effects (i got headaches, but nothing i couldn't handle)

Thanks, ladies! Saw my RE today and there's some growth now, it's just slow. Depending on how things progress, I might start femara next week. I especially want to thank momma and nellysgirl for the femara/letrozole suggestion because I told my RE I'd prefer that over clomid.
