Our car insurance- we were actually owed some money based on our previous home and confusion on the closing. We moved states and it's less now, plus our commutes have been reduced so there is a discount. We got a $500 refund and I saved about $200/6 month!
Our vet- we are on a monthly plan through Banfield. I called and told them I didn't want to cancel my plan but I had some medical expenses that trumped this. She said she would waive the charges for the month. I have two dogs so that was $70.00! I plan to continue to call every other month until they tell me to get lost! ;)
Our bug guy- Same speech, and asked for a discount. He couldn't do much but said if we paid upfront for the year he could give a 10% discount. That was about $9/month.
That was over $110 on stuff I had considered fixed expenses. Ok yes we could get rid of the bug guy if we had to but it's bad out here in OR! Always call and push a little if they resist. Often I will "sadly threaten" to have to consider other options because I need to get my expenses down. Often they will work with you. I call Comcast every 6 months when the promotions run out and get the prices reduced. Don't take no for an answer and ask to speak with a manager if necessary. I always say, thank you for your help but that won't be sufficient, is there a manager I could speak with. I am never a bitch but insistent and know they can make it happen with a flick of a finger.
Call around- you can do it!! :)
As for saving money, I put away $200 per pay for like 6 months and then saved my Christmas bonus plus DH is in a union and they don't get paid days off instead they have a "vacation account" where a portion of his pay gets saved away. We are using that money as well. Also, I'm not sure where you live but I'm in Ohio and am going to travel to Syracuse NY for my IVF due to cost. It's a 6 hour drive but this clinic called CNY fertility has a plan that costs $8k for three cycles versus $10k for one cycle in Ohio. Good luck!
I got a check from the clinic for about 2100 after all the IVF stuff was submitted to my insurance...and this what was left....eventho my insurance does NOT cover IVF..it did however pay for my sedations and US and blood work which I had originally paid for up front. I put that check right back into my 401K so it will be paid off faster.
I am excited for you though, so many times it seems like women do IUI forever and as soon as they switch to IVF, the BFP comes!
