Is it normal to be prescribed progesterone cream 6 days after having an IUI??
I'm confused! My doctor had me do blood work to check my progesterone levels 5 days after my IUI. I received a call from the nurse the next day and she said my levels were low. She called in the Rx for the progesterone cream in which I was instructed to start that night. My pharmacy ended up calling me saying it required authorization. By the time I called my doctors office they were already closed. I left a message with the answering service and had the covering doctor call me. When I explained everything to her and asked if there was another medication I could take over the weekend, she said she didn't get why I was prescribed the progesterone cream in the first place. She specified that progesterone levels can change throughout out the day and if tested there would be a different result every time. She also said there was no need for it, my Clomid cycle would be sufficient.
I'm very new to all this and I don't want to take medication if its not absolutely necessary. I'm looking forward to your feed back :)

Lots of doctors prescribe progesterone suppositories a week after your IUI and I'm pretty sure everyone who gets IVF as well (even if your levels are normal). It helps your wall get sticky so that your egg has a better chance of attached to it for implantation. I hope this helps you.

I don't know about the progesterone cream. I am going to be taking progesterone suppositories afer my iui on Wed. I am on injectables this time. I know that clomid can thin your uterine lining. Sorry, I wish I could be more helpful.

I have done the pills, the cream and the suppositories.. not all at the same time of course. but i did have to start them 3 days after my iui's...

Thanks ladies you've been a great help. I was concerned because of what the covering doctor said. I'm waiting on my doctor to call me back so we can discuss further.

Some REs prescribe it automatically and some wait to see what your levels do on their own. So do not freak that they are just putting you on it now. Good luck.

I actually requested it on my own since many women here were using it, and my RE never suggested it. I had done 4 IUIs unsuccessfully, and so I wanted to try something different this time. I do injectibles, letrozole, trigger, and now suppository. I have to say i'm not enjoying the progesterone, but have my fingers crossed that this will help do the trick!
