I did PGD and regret it. It is very expensive. Some are lucky and one embryo will come back normal and they will have something to transfer, unfortunately many do not.
The problem with PGD is that the embryos are still forming. There is a theory called mosaic where many cells that look abnormal will correct themselves during the first weeks of pregnancy. Therefore if an embryo looks abnormal on the PGD testing, it may become a normal healthy embryo and result in a full term pregnancy.
Also most truly abnormal embies will not implant or be early miscarriages.
My opinion is do not do PGD. I know of one woman on here who now has a baby who did PGD so she would tell you otherwise. But for me, I say save your money.

Wow, Alana, thank you, that was really informative! I talked to a few friends not on DS who had their kids thru IVF and didn't do the PGD testing and also said there are some theories that PGD can interrupt the proper growth of an embie, but not too sure about the validity of that.

We were all set to do PGD testing but at retrieval I only had 3 mature eggs, the doctor told us to save our money. He said he didn't see the reason to do such an expensive test on such a small amount so that's what we did. We transferred two and we got a BFP (only one stuck). I was 36 at the time but my RE was more concered with DH sperm quality. Our doctors can only do so much and the rest is up to the good man above. Make sure what ever you decide, you are at peace with it. Best of luck :)

I've done PGD at my dr's recommendation after 6 miscarriages. We knew, for certain, that some had abnormal chromosomes. So we tried it. Turned out, I'm a low responder. 3 cycles totalled in 8 embies. Only 1 was normal but she didn't implant. I think it was worth the try because I don't want to look back and say "what if I'd done this or that". I don't want to have that kind of regret.

At this point however, I'm taking 3 months to improve my egg quality. Look into the effects of micronized DHEA, l-arginine, royal jelly, and CoQ10. There is research showing that these supplements can help improve your eggs but it takes time. I don't know yet if it will help but I'm trying everything to improve my chances.

I have also heard that embryos can "correct" themselves even if an abnormality is initially detected. I think that unless you're a known carrier of a translocation or a genetic disease, PGD is probably a waste of money. Just my thoughts!

A woman who cycled with me had recurrent miscarriages so they did PGD on all her three IVF cycles to find ONE viable embryo, which they did and she went on to have a successful pregnancy. Some clinics will not do PGD if you get a low number of eggs because you have to go to Day 5 (blasts) with PGD. Since we never had more than 4 embies, all my transfers were 3 day.

To address your age point, i was 40 during the first IVF cycle which resulted in DD, and 42 during my last two cycles (the last one was successful in implanting).

While I've never heard of mosaic, I would agree with what Alan says - some can correct themselves and others will just not implant or mc. Good luck!
