i'm seriously considering breast feeding with the adoption. anyone have any thoughts or info on this?

I know of some women who tried it. Some had success and other didn't. I know a lot of the time they had to supplement with formula because they just couldn't make enough breast milk. I gave birth to my son and found it very hard to keep up with his demand---honestly I don't think I was devoted enough. Good luck I think it is so awesome that you are getting so far in the adoption process. I hope you can get some good info on breastfeeding.

I think that is awesome. I saw a couple do it on adoption stories and she had a bag of milk strapped to her breast and it had lines attached to her nipple. So the baby could drink. She started to produce some milk of her own. Just amazing.

we will be adopting a newborn. hopefully we will be at the hospital when they are born. that all depends on the birthmother and the situation, but we are adopting a newborn. i don't know how i will produce milk. i was hoping someone might have some insight on that point. but i've read that there are medications and that pumping 2 or 3 times a day will trick my body into thinking i am pregnant or that i have had a baby so it knows to make milk. chances are i would have to supplement, but they make things called lact-aid which is a tube that fits next to the nipple so the baby is still sucking

I heard one time that the doctor can give you meds to produce milk. I had a friend do that because she dried up to soon, I think that would maybe be the place to start? Good Luck to you and I think it is wonderfl to want to bond that way

There was a discussion about this a long time ago...maybe a year or so and it was really interesting. One girl said she went to her OB and he put her on some hormones and she was able to produce milk that way. Another girl said that she just used a breast pump for 3 months and got milk to come in on it's own. She said it was rather uncomfortable and she felt really silly but heck...if it works I'd do it!

Either way I hope it works out for you! I plan to do the same if we adopt. I say call your OB or RE and see what they have to say. Good luck!
