This is soooo stupid... my office didn't want me to put back 3... 3 not 6... grrrrrrrr... I can't see how any responible doc could do this...

I go to Kaiser for my IF treatment. Not the one that delivered the 8 tho. Anyway as my RE was doing my u/s I asked her about the case. She said that the woman came to Kaiser already pg with the 8. She is a medi-cal patient. I asked her why hasnt Kaiser tried to clear their name and she said that Kaiser is trying to be hush hush b/c they feel a lawsuit is coming. They are getting hate mail saying why can you get her pg with 8 but cant get my wife pg with 1. Kaiser is very big on the fact that they will cancel a cycle if they think something like this will happen. I first thought it was iui and was shocked that it was ivf! So freakin ridiculous. She will be living off the state and us the tax payers! Makes me just a bit bitter.

Wait..if she is on state medical assistance ..Are you telling me that the state of CA (being a mandated state) paid for her IVF? What a mess! I hope peolpe catch on and this story fades off into whereever! I pray for all those children, and justice for the IF community!

My biggest concern with this situation is that this woman and her doctor will have started a backlash that will be felt by the rest of us. I'm afraid that there will be stricter guidelines for IVF imposed and that we will have to jump through more hoops to get treated. Will we have to prove that we need treatment and at what cost? I also worry that the hope of mandated coverage nationwide will be denied because of this. One woman took advantage and now we will all pay the price.

Oh my gosh...I thought the same thing about her trying to look/act like Angelina Jolie!! Strange!

This woman just pushes every single one of my buttons.

1. She tried for 7 years or so to get pregnant, and her eldset child is 7. That puts her at starting ttc somewhere around 11 or 12. Like as soon as her cycles began. How did the dr and nurses miss that?

2. If you have void and need to connect with people then you join a gym and get a work out buddy or something. You make friends. If you need your connection to come from children AND you're single AND not working.... then why not go to school to become a teacher or get a job in a daycare. See, still connecting with children.

3. She's on disability for a back injury. HELLO!!!! A woman with a perfect back can not make it to full term with one baby without some kind of back pain. It just makes perfect sense that with a disabled back she could carry 8 babies, and then when she's home with all her children care for all 14. Right, ever try to carry a newborn with one arm and a toddler on your other hip... I have can we say massage please. It wasn't a 'kill me please' kind of pain, but it did hurt.

Seriously, everything about her makes me want to pinch her head off and fling it back at her. How stupid to do IVF 7 times. Even for just one more after the 6. After the first one maybe even two... why not adopt a few children who need a loving parent or become a foster parent and help some lonely child who needs their faith in adults restored.

Just one more thing. Does she really believe that she will be able to finish school anytime soon with 14 children to care for? Seriously??!! This woman is touched in the head. I don't mean like bumped on the forehead with the stupid stick. I mean piece of skull removed and stabbed with the stupid stick, leaves and all... just a branch growing out the side of her head.

We can all forget any kind of nation wide mandated coverage now. It may still come to pass, but there will be so many guidelines and hoops to jump through. It will be crazy. I can imagine background checks, marriage/family counceling, financial records, and then we'll still have to sign some agreement saying something along the lines of 'agree to reduce pregnancy to x number if treatment yeilds results of higher order multiples'.

Stupid stupid stupid people. Just trying to see how far they can go safely, and what can they get from doing so.

I must have missed the part that said she's 33, I thought she was younger. Even so that puts her at starting to ttc at 18 or 19. Which makes her first successful IVF at 25 or 26. Now I feel a little stupid. Just a little, because the fact remains that at the time of her first IVF she was divorced. Again, not such a bid deal. No reason why a single woman can't also be a mother by using IVF. It's her body, her eggs, her money, her choice. However, I would venture to say that those women are EMPLOYED and not on disability for a back injury.

I think this woman adds to the negativity surroundnig infertility treatment. It not fair that b/c this lady is crazy, the rest of us mentally healthy women should be categorized the same way and put through any sort of testing/background checks to have a baby! I think she is insane and needs mental help.

With that said, I also beleive that our body is our right. I don't know any dr that would implant that many embryos but at the same time, it is her body and choosing what to do with leftover embroys is not something that can be taken lightly. Knowing her past success, they should have taken out less eggs so that she wouldn't be faced with what to do w/the leftover embryos.

she now has an interview set up with Ann Curry. I wish she would just crawl under a rock somewhere. It's ridiculous that this even happened to begin with, but now she's getting more and more publicity which is going to make life that much harder for those of us who are actually dealing with IF. I'm sorry but if you have 6 children already that you don't take care of, you don't need 8 more.

One of the things that REALLY gets me is that in her interview it says she put back 6 embryos EVERY PREGNANCY... yeah you heard that EVERY TIME so 6*7=42 embryos put back... by the same doc.... WTF....... and that means the first time she had ivf they put back 6 WTF

They talk about psychological evaluations for people seeking fertility treatment. They said they do more when people adopt then when they do this. I'm torn on this issue.

i have a friend in cali, and her last ivf, ( failed) but her doc imp; 8 embies, because she had so many failed ivf's but he made her sign a paper saying she would reduce the pregy..... she prob. really wanted a big family, and now maybe she is trying to cash in, i cant imagine that was her first thought ..... can you???? but... it kind of made me mad that people are ? that she should have been allowed to do ivf because she already had 6 kids, no one tells a woman who can get preg. on her own, up sorry, you have 6 kids, you need to have a tubal ligation no more kids for you..... lets just pray she is a good mother, i feel for the kids she already has, i was watching super nanny the other night and the woman had 10kids and it showed how adversly it was affecting the older kids.... it was so sad.....

OMG, I can't believe California is giving me an IOU for my state income tax return yet this woman has been collecting disability for years and had the gov't pay for her IVF! ARGH!

NO WONDER THE STATE IS BANKRUPT! I voted for the Governator but MY GOD, what a mess he is making over here!

My ivf cost my family about $35,000. We took out a second mortgage on our house to finance it. Boy does this story burn my hide! Where is the justice????????

I do not think couples seeking fertility treatments should have to go through a psychological evaluation. Couples who get pregnant on their own don't have to and neither should we. I feel in her case, she got pregnant with all her other IVF cycles and gave birth to healthy children that they should not of transferred back so many embryos. I am older, never been pregnant, had multiple failed cycles and my doctors have never suggested anything even close to how many embryos she had transferred. It was irresponsible of the doctor and the parents. The sad thing is now ignorant people are making comments about all couples seeking fertility treatments.

But I will say it one more time (and believe me, I do not understand why some parents who harm their children were ever allowed to have them) but infertility is hard enough without having someone try to tell us we can not do treatments because they feel we are not fit to be parents or to even have to go through an evaluation. Most the wold gets pregnant on their own and never has to be evaluated. I just feel that would be wrong. The doctor knew transferring that many embryos was wrong and despite what the parents wanted he was the professional and should not of done what he did.

A friend sent me a Facebook message asking what I thought of this woman and this was my response:

I, personally, think that woman is a disgrace. And I think the dr. who did it should be investigated. I don't think he should lose his license b/c he has the ability to help people, but should have some kind of consequences for his actions. I sympathize w/ those w/ fertility problems and those who have to undergo treatments to fulfill their dreams but come on now! This woman is 33, relatively young, and already had 6 children under the age of 7. If she wanted a large family she had one. 6 kids is a large family. Her ability to carry children obviously wasn't an issue therefore there is absolutely no reason to place that many embryos back. Most clinics refuse to place more than 3. 2 is the typical number. If she were 40 yrs. old w/ no children then I could see wanting to put more back to better her chances. And why on earth would you continue to do IVF when you already have that many children!?! Let that dr. help someone who really needs it. Let him help my friends who have lost baby after baby or done 5 IVFs w/ no luck who want nothing more than to have a baby. The people who have spent their life savings just to fulfill their dreams of motherhood. Those are the people who need it. Not this woman. She makes IVF and infertility look like a joke. Now she has 14 under the age of 7 and lives w/ her parents. Nice. How in the world is she going to support them...oh yeah, from the millions she'll get in book deals and deals for pictures of the babies. I know how it feels to cry yourself to sleep b/c you think you cant have children and to feel like a total failure as a woman. I know how emotionally and then physically draining IVF can be. I've been poked, prodded, and stuck w/ needles more times than you can imagine and I've given up a huge chunk of my life savings for it. So if this woman was lonely she should have gotten a dog and let the dr. help someone who really needed it.
