New to IVF experience

Hi guys! My husband and I are planning on doing IVF. We found a clinic in NY called CNY Fertility. We have just started the whole process, so it is going to be a little ways down the road, but I am curious to know what to expect... Dr. Kiltz let me know that I will have 4-6 weeks of meds and hormone injections. Are these meds going to turn my life upside down? Will I be able to function and work? Also, has anyone on here ever applied for grants for IVF cycles? We are trying to figure out the best approach being that we are both going to be graduating from college around the same time we will do this cycle.

I did my first IVF while working FT and my RE 3 hours each way. It is a rollercoaster but really wasn't that big of a deal. If you have done IUI's with meds it is basically that with a touch more. I think the hardest and craziest difference was being so so hopeful of the IVF and when that didn't work it rocked my world. This from someone who said she'd never do any treatments anyway. That said, one final round in January is my plan and then I'm out unless my miracle comes a calling. Good luck to you~~you can do it!

The meds are not that bad, you get used to giving yourself the shots and it's exciting getting ultrasounds, counting follicles and hoping for success. I agree with QBFan though---the letdown when it didn't work was the hardest thing I've ever been through. Hopefully, you will be a first time IVF success story! Good luck!

Hey, i have just joined this site today, we will be on our first IVF icsi treatment soon and hopefully starting second last week in january. on second day of my cycle, it was all very rushed at the clinic, where we did the sperm test, and they did an ultra sound of me - thats about all we have had so far.

Not so sure how it will go or how i will feel, i will be working throughout it all and we are just hoping fopr the best really im a bit worried about how people say the hormones make them crazy - (as if im not crazy as it is ) :))

Welcome skuhn, I'm missing my tube(s) too and have one lazy ovary so we share something...we're prefect candidates for IVF. :-)

I just finished my first IVF cycle.
We just finished our first IVF cycle. It starts with a month on BC to calm down your ovary and we are actually more fertile 1 month after being on BC for only a month. Weird, eh?

Then you do the injections. They tell you 2 weeks, but they monitor you closely and you'll need to have bloodwork and an ultrasound every day until your eggs are mature. For us, that was 11 days of stims, and then we were off to the ER for our egg retrieval day.

It's good to stay positive as they say our fertility increases when we are not worried. So do things to make yourself happy during that time. Ice cream, favorite girlie movies...are all great.

Some girls have opted to increase their fertility with accupuncture sessions too or diet. My girlfriend swears that her dietician helped her the most during her multiple attempts.

The drugs were ok for me, I only had one day when I was really super emotional. and that's to be expected (so give yourself a break and prewarn your DH). I was able to function at work, although all of the doc appointments is quite a bit. Plus, you'll have a minimum of 3 days that you'll have to take off, 1 for the ER day, and 2 for the transfer day. If you can afford more days off, some like to do that.

And then you'll wait for about 2 weeks to find out if you're prego! Baby dust to you...
