I have had 2 IVF's both ended up in BFN's. The first time the embryos weren't great so the 2nd time they changed the protocol to try and get better quality embies and it worked, we transferred 3 excellent blasts but still BFN. So I found this website that has the success rates for RE's all over the US (in case anyone wants it, it's http://www.sart.org/) and I found another clinic that has a much higher rate (supposedly higher that most others in the US), so I made an appointment. I know it's not the RE's fault weather they stick or not, thats out of his hands but I am just so frustrated. My question is, at this point is it better to stay where I am and go for #3? Or should I get another opinion and possibly go somewhere else?

I think if you're on the fence about it, it won't hurt to get a second opinion. That may ease your mind and let you know you are doing all you can.

I agree with reply #1. Try another RE that has a better success rate. Maybe they'll see something that your current RE didn't.

i agree with wendyct. getting a second would be good, and if you decide you like this RE better you could always switch.

We had three failed IVFs before switching. We're now going to the Colorado Center for Reproductive Medicine (and we live in Texas!). They "specialize" in repeat failures. I wish we had done this sooner... Now, we're not to BFP yet (having a one day workup there in a week and then the actual IVF will probably be in the fall) but already the new RE pointed out several legitimate issues with our previous cycles (besides the obvious BFNs). I too checked out that website and went to a new RE last week.I like the new RE even if he is over an hour away.he already upped my thyroid meds and i had to go for a 3hr glucose tolerance test today.he pointed out some things he would have done differently also.

Don't go off the percentages alone. I know my RE will take cases that no one else will. So his numbers are a little lower, but his sucess rates with high risk or difficult cases is higher. Go where you are comfortable!

my age range doesn't show up on those graphs so maybe thats why they took my case

Are they sure there is nothing else doing on keeping them from implanting? What tests have they done? Sometimes they miss stuff that another doctor may think of or maybe we could think of to suggest.

I changed my RE and facility after my 3rd and wished I did it sooner. Do you like your RE?? I made a move because I was not happy with my RE's attitude and approach. I love my new RE and it makes life so much less stressful. If this other clinic has better success rates, I say why not change. It is only the inital transition which is busy, but then you will be ready to try again:) Not sure what other factors you have to consider, so go with your gut too. Hope you get your BFP soon:)

I too, had two failed IVF cycles and have switched to a new RE for my 3rd IVF. My new RE has better stats than my previous and the office is way more professional. The jury is still out on whether it worked or not though, my beta is Thursday. I'm glad I switched though, because really, what did I have to lose?

Thank you all for your replies. I do like my current RE very much and they have done all kinds of tests. After my 1st BFN they sent me for a thrombofilia (sp?) panel, which did come back with some elevated stuff so they put me on Lovenox for the 2nd IVF. But still got a BFN. I have my follow-up with my RE tomorrow morning so I guess I hear what he has to say about it. Thanks for the opinions, I went ahead and made an appt. with the other RE, I guess a 2nd opinion won't hurt.

I think it's always good to get a second opinion even if in the end you decide to stay where you are. More info won't hurt and perhaps you''ll get some questions. Good luck!
