There are quite a few good movies out there about infertility, although there are far more about accidental pregnancies... Anyway, I just watched a movie called "The Baby Dance" which had Stockard Channing and Laura Dern (it was a made for TV movie from 1998). Stockard Channing played a wealthy woman who had suffered from multiple miscarriages. She and her husband finally decided to adopt, and that's how they met Laura Dern's character. She already had four children she couldn't afford and was pregnant with her fifth. Her kids didn't even live with her and her husband because the trailer was too small; they stayed with her mom. She was somehow still very likeable, but it was the obvious dynamic of wealthy versus poor and there was a lot of clashing (particularly when the infertile couple felt like they were being taken advantage of). The movie was good overall, but I found the ending to be very disturbing. There is also "Immediate Family" with Glenn Close, James Woods, Mary Stuart Masterson, and Kevin Dillon. This was another adoption one, once again the wealthy, infertile couple and the poor fertile couple. As much as I enjoyed these movies (although they do make me cry), I find it to be very annoying how it's always depicted this way. What about the infertile couples who don't have a lot of money and can't afford adoption or IVF? There was also "Maybe Baby" which had Huge Laurie from House and Joely Richardson. This was a UK movie, which also had a more affluent couple. But it showed a couple going through IF treatments rather than dealing with adoption. Anyway, I'm a movie buff so I just wanted to share a few movies that deal with this topic, that let's face it, pretty much consumes our lives. Does anyone know of any other good IF movies?
