Ok so the "almost" is because there is 1 more hurdle to jump. DH and I had a phone conference with an adoption agency and got nothing but warm fuzzy feelings about it....then we hit that big wall.....$20,000.....we don't have that. DH decides to go for the long shot and call about refinancing our home. With the economy the way it is we didn't have our hopes up. We got the call this morning that we can refinance! here's the hurdle......we can refinance as long as the house passes an inspection. So now once we have that done we will be able to lower our monthly house payment by about $30 and get a cash out option of $15,000-$30,000 which means we will be able to afford the private adoption. So keep your fingers, toes, eyes everything crossed and say an extra prayer for us. We need this refi to happen.

Good luck to you,, I wish you the best but please remember to read all the papers for refinance. ALOT of people have lost their homes because they didnt understand the paperwork. Again good luck.

Oh how exciting. I'm glad you can refinance. I'm also on the adoption path. I love hearing about adoption journeys! I also could use some financing prayers! What agency are you looking at?

Congratulations! I was pleasantly surprised with my adoption that I also got a fat rebate from our federal government... so if you adopt in 2009, plan for $8K back in 2010!

We are actually going though 2...sort of. Good Shepherd which is a non-profit agency through Catholic charities and Adoption Network Law Center (which is what we need the large amount of money for). They upped the federal return for adoption as well...now federal taxes will give you $10,360 back on adoptions.
