Metformin, but not insulin resistant

Hi ladies,

While we are on a break from active cycles, my RE suggested that I start taking metformin. My insulin level is slightly high within the normal range, but still well within the normal range. He said I am not insulin resistant, but sometimes they use the metformin as an empirical treatment for PCO and it helps with ovulation.

Has anyone ever had any success in this situation? Anyone not insulin resistant ever had it help them ovulate more regularly??

i was put on Metformin and i am also not insulin resistant. it has helped me ovulate with clomid but no BFP yet. but at least im ovulating! good luck to u. I've heard many sucesse stories with Metformin:)

Hi Jaime,
My sister (who TTC for 8 years!) got pregnant while taking Metformin (along with Clomid). She also said that Metformin helps you lose weight!! Good luck!

I've been taking it for 2years and am not insulin resistant...still haven't gotton pregnant yet but ivf #2 in Feb so maybe it will work this time

One of my teaching partners had PCOS and the doctor put her on metformin. She isn't insulin resistant either. She now has a 10 month old son and claims that the metformin helped a lot.

I'm on metformin for insulin resistance. It's great for weight loss (killed my appetite) :) and once i lowered my weight by 30 pounds my cycle has been normal. So, somewhere in there you're probably going to get some help from the meds. Be warned though that it can cause an upset tummy for the first few weeks you take it.

My OBGYN told me I had PCOS but I'm not insulin resistant. She still wanted me on Metformin. I asked her why and she said that's just how PCOS is treated. But how do I have PCOS without cysts and without being insulin resistant. THis made no sense to me. I'm not saying I don't believe doctors, but just saying "Because" when I ask "Why" wasn't helping. I ended up going to my GP and had a glucose tolerance test. This confirmed that I am NOT insulin-resistant. I actually have really low blood sugar and now I have to be very careful when and what I eat. Protein, fiber, complex cards every three hours. The Metformin made me lose my appetite and I'd not eat all day. Thinking back, I remember getting dizzy and feeling awful at the end of each day. I stopped taking it because I just didn't feel good on it and because no one had really given me a real reason as to why and how it helps ovulation. I'm not opposed to getting on it again if that's what I need to do, but I hate, hate, hate taking medication and won't do it unless it's absolutely life or death necessary. I'm planning to see an RE soon who will hopefully give me some better answers to my questions. As far as ovulation, I ovulated once for sure on the Met, and the other three months were iffy. My doctor said I probably did, but my numbers were still low.

    My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
