JerseyJen, like FNP suggested, maybe have your DH do a DNA fragmentation test (SCSA?) if you have not already. Our new RE had my DH do one even though his count is really good. It was just another test to rule out/in anything that would have been causing our unexplained IF. I think the test cost us $450 out of pocket since his insurance would not cover it, but it was worth knowing his swimmers DNA was good.

We also have had the DNA fragmentation test. After our first IVF that ended in an epic fail, my RE said that DH's DNA may be fragmented and we proceeded with the test- like LMWT- it was about $500 out of pocket. DNA turned out fine, which was a HUGE relief. They also changed the type of medium in the petree (sp?) dish which also made a huge difference with our next IVF. Our fertilization rates increased considerably.

I assume (but maybe I'm wrong) that your DH has seen a urologist and had a physical exam done. They found an enlarged varicocele on his scrotum that is bringing extra blood (and heat) to that area, possibly making the swimmers sluggish. We had a few setbacks and stupid things that made us have to pursue IVF instead of surgery, but in the future, we may attempt repair surgery on the vein to see if that helps. It's not definitive that this is the cause of his count problems, but it's a possibility. Worth looking into.

Thanks for the info, we did not do dfi, but I will bring it up. We did IVF with ICSI with 24 eggs and only one embreo was still dividing at our day 3 transfer. It is curious why all but one embreo stopped dividing. Even if DH has dfi wouldn't they just recommend IVF with ICSI anyway since there is no cure?

Before I go back to endure another round of IVF, I would like more attention torword another male physical exam, do they do ultrasounds to look for blockages? He saw a general urologist, do they have fertility specific ones?

It is just frustrating that I'm a pincushion that is has undergone all the many painful female fertility tests to find out I'm fine, while DH just provides a SA to diagnose his.

JerseyJen- Having one embryo at day three after that many eggs is a red flag, something is up with that. I'm unaware what DFI is... I can do some searching in my records- after my first IVF turned out to be an epic fail- they looked at my husband. They did the DNA fragmentation test- which turned out that he had some serious fragmentation. We had it retested with another facility- had to sent his specimen away- and it was cleared. They first diagnosis was ruled a misdiagnosis. They did, however, with my second round of IVF, switched the medium to aid in finding some good swimmers- which worked. Second time around 28 eggs, 21 inseminated, 18 fertilized, and 12 matured. I did a three day transfer. I'll do some searching...
