We have around 6 million. We did one IUI to see how well my husband's numbers would do after the wash. After seeing the results our RE was very honest in recommending that we not bother with IUIs, but move straight to IVF with ICSI. And this was knowing that insurance would cover us for IUIs, but not IVF.

Well my DH has a count of about 4.5 million so we jumped right to IVF with ICSI. Our insurance didn't cover us for ANYTHING - not even meds. But we just found out we are pregnant so it was definitely worth the money.

DF has low counts and motility issues. We did double IUI and it did not work. My tubes were no good either so that could of been the reason. Usually and RE would want the sperm count to be 20 million or above. If under they usually suggest IVF, or that DH sees urologist to see if they could help get counts up.

Because of low counts they wanted us to do IVF. Plus my tubes were crap but at the time of the IUI they thought they were okay.

It only takes one great swimmer but your odds drop a lot if the counts are lower.

We just did IUI w/Clomid on Saturday and our count post wash was only 2.2 million per cc. I got pregnant without IUI when DH was testing lower than that but miscarried. Everything I have read is that above 1 million is possible, 5 mil is better and 20-30 million is ideal.

It really only does take one good swimmer. Maybe I can be a success story in 2 weeks.

I'm in my 2ww of my 4th IUI. Each IUI DH had over 20 million post wash. I got pregnant on the first one but it was not viable. The 2nd and 3rd did not work and the fourth he only had 15 million. I still don't know if it worked on not.

If your DH doesn't have any other issues that would make the numbers get lower then I don't think 12 million sounds too bad. Our problem is morphology so we always lose a ton in the wash.

I'm just starting to learn about IUI's but my doctor told me today that husband can give several samples over time and they can freeze them until there is a normal count and then do the IUI with the combined sperm. I thought that was interesting but haven't read anything about this anywhere. I hope it is true. seems like it would help

We have low count, low motility, low morphology, low everything, so we were told IVF with ICSI was our only hope. Our first cycle failed and we are in the middle of our second one. Good luck!

My DH has poor quality and mobility. We've tried 3 IVF's and 1 FET with no luck. Our RE recently suggested considering a sperm donor but we have 2 frozen left so we're doing another FET next to buy us more time on considering the donor suggestion.

Sperm count can vary over a period of weeks or months. DH had low sperm count one month, then three months later he was in the very high end of normal range.

More detailed analysis revealed that he is "borderline normal" (on the last lab) -- which was due to motility and morphology.

It has changed for the better over the past few months, so that is a possibility!

My husband has exactly the same problem, only worse: 0.5 to 1 million. Our doctor told us that with low sperm count, IUI often doesn't work, and skipping directly to IVF is a much better option.

My hubby also has very low sperm count much lower then yours and so the Dr recommend we go right into IVF. He gave us two Options We could have used donor sperm or saved up enough of his until we had a good amount of his and then us it. We did number 2 which I was so happy we did because thank the Lord it worked on the first IVF and we Know have a healthy 8 month old baby girl. Good Luck with what ever you decide.

My DH had low morphology (double heads and tails, we called the Homer's to make the pain easier) and low count. By working with an accupuncturist he is now producing stellar swimmers. He had over 55 million with a 4 grade for activity at our last IUI. Our RE is stunned. It was a combo of diet (removing all toxins, eating a lot of organic and hormone free food) and treatments but it worked. Now if we could only get one good egg out of me!

Our count was around 8 mill and after 6 failed IUI's it was suggested that we go to IVF with ICSI. It is expensive but it worked on the first try...very helpful if count is the issue. If at all possible save yourself the time and stress and go to IVF. I will be thiking of you and keeping you in my prayers.

My husband actually had zero sperm in his ejaculate. We were stunned when we first heard the news, but reproductive technology is amazing these days. He had to undergo a testicular biopsy (where they found sperm) and then 2 testicular aspirations in conjunction with IVF/ICSI and I am now 16 weeks pregnant and everything is going great! If your husband has any sperm in his ejaculate and doesn't have to undergo the testicular aspiration, I say go with IVF with ICSI. They can individually fertilize the eggs with ICSI and it works beautifully. Good Luck and I will pray for you all whatever you decide!!!

My dh has a count of 1 to 2 million. We were told that we would only conceive with IVF/ICSI. I am now 14.5 weeks without medical intervention. It took us 3 years. If it helps any my dh did take clomid for about 6 months for a boost in count last year for an IUI. It wasn't successful for us, but I have heard of positive results. Good luck!
