Ladies,

I need some assistance and advice while I sit here waiting for the nurse to call back. I will be as brief as possible! I had a follow up u/s and bloodwork yesterday and they moved by ER from Friday up to Tuesday. I was supposed to have my trigger injection at 12:30 a.m. (half an hour after midnight). DH and I went to do the trigger injection but for some odd reason we couldn't get the meds out of the damned bottle with the needle. We called the emergency hotline, spoke with a pharmacist who as only able to INCREASE my level of frustration!!! Needless to say, I was in tears, crying, etc. DH and I immediately drove to an emergency room and one of the physicians was able to get it out and gave me my trigger injection but it ended up being a half an hour late. As I indicated earlier, a message has been left for the nurse but I am freaking out that this mistake may have cost me the entire IVF cycle (or at least what there is of it due to a limited # of follicles). Any thoughts????

First of all I'm sorry you had such and ordeal, those bloody trigger shots can do that the heighten anxiety can prove emotional even if you think you've got it under control it can sneak up. So just breathe. You've called you RN, no experience here but I'm going to guess that there is a possibility they'll just move your RT up an hour+, you take no meds before or after the trigger so you shouldn't have done anything to that so worst case they'll have to "squeeze" you in. Nothing even runs perfectly on time, I took mine at 9:45pm and I'm sure I will not be the there at precisely 9:45am tomorrow. I'll cross my fingers, but I'm think I don't have to you'll be fine, if not you can yell at me if it makes you feel better ;0)

Don't worry!!! They will just push back (not move up) your retrieval by a half hour. It may mess up their schedule, but whatever. After you trigger, you're supposed to be in the ER for your retrieval 36 hours later (therefore, they'll need you there an hour ahead of time to prep you). Your cycle won't be wasted, don't worry.

I am so sorry it was such an ordeal for you. That would be very frustrating. You have done the right thing and called the doctor so that is good. Your RE will know for sure what to do. It could be that a half hour won't matter. Just try to remain calm until the nurse calls you back. GL!

I bet they will just wait half an hour longer to do your ER. Everything will be fine. But I can imagine how frustrated you were :) IVF can be really stressful. Good luck on your ER.

I hope the nurse has called back by now but I think that you will be fine. Just let the docs know. I am sure they deal with stuff like that ALL the time. They will adjust as they need to. Try not to stress (I know, easier said) it all works out!

don't worry i am sure they will just adjust your retrieval time by a half hour. they decide on the trigger time based on what time they are gonna do your retrieval. i am sure they won't cancel your cycle. they will work it out.

No need to stress, once you go in for your retrieval it will not be timed to the exact minute, we actually waited almost a half an hour and it was still fine...talk to your RE and they will tell you what to do but I would not worry that you have to scrap the month. Good thinking with the ER, I never would have thought of that but it is a great idea! Best of luck to you!

It will be OK! We did our trigger to the second that we were supposed to, but when we arrived at the hospital for our ET the nurse on duty told us our retrieval was scheduled for an hour after it was supposed to be. I FREAKED out but it turns out that there is a lot of flexibility -- our retrieval turned out to be about 38 hours after the trigger, not 36, and that was just fine. So they can change the time of the retrieval, and even if the schedule just won't work for that half hour and it has to be an hour or even two hours late, it should be fine. Just try to relax.

We had our own trauma in triggering -- we had prefilled syringes but they only ordered us 1 and then required us to use 2 to trigger. We figured this out less than 3 hours before we were supposed to trigger and had to drive the 2 hours to the fertility pharmacy in a panic -- but it was fine. And your situation will be fine, too.

Don't worry--1/2 an hour won't make a difference. Last IVF cycle I did my trigger shot on time, but my Dr. was late in arriving to the clinic the day of my retrieval and so my retrieval was late by almost an hour, and no-one seemed concerned!!

some of the posts say that the 1/2 difference for your retrieval time isn't a big deal or won't make a difference, and the doctor was late and didn't seem concerned. It is a big deal. Once you trigger, you MUST be in the operating room 36 hours later. It is critical because timing really is everything. If you triggered a 1/2 later than you were supposed to, then your retrieval should be a half later as well.

Hopefully you've heard from the doctor or nurse by now and this is a moot point.

Thank you to each and every one of you for being kind enough to come to my rescue! I was in complete panic mode, not knowing where to turn and I knew it was going to be some time before I was able to reach the nurse and/or physician. Good news is that they didn't cancel the cycle and have moved it by about 15 minutes. THANK GOD! Again, I really appreciate all of your support and assistance. Sincerely,
