Ok- I am really trying to RELAX this cycle, but I have a few pondering questions for you ladies. Once I get these answered, I will let things "go" from my head.... Since there is so much contradicting information out there, I was wondering what your RE's said about the following:
Not that I don't believe mine- I am just being overly analytical.... it's my nature (UGHH)!
1. How long does washed sperm live?
*My RE said days- he said after retrieval he has seen live sperm in the petri dish days after.
2. Is there a recommended time frame from the time DH drops off sperm to when it should be put in us?
My last IUI there was a three hour time lapse- dropped off at 8:30, inserted at 11:30... is that too long?
3. Those who have had back to back IUI's- do you think it's worth it? I would have to pay double- there is no "package plan" at my office...
4. How long after HcG do you get your IUI done? My was about 28 hours later... RE said you usually OV between 24-30 hours later. I always thougt it was 36....

1. My RE says washed sperm lives for the same amount of time as unwashed... anywhere from 2-5 days.
2. I used donor sperm, I had it with me for about 45 minutes and it was inserted about 45 minutes after that. I don't know how long is too long, but mine worked.
3. I had back to back IUIs on my 3rd try and it worked. I didn't have it done on my 4th try and it worked. There is no evidense that support it works better or not, if your first IUI is properly timed.
4. I had all my IUI done around 36 hours after my hcg shot. I was just ovulating as she did the procedure this last time. The best timed IUI is six hours either side of ovulation but remember sperm can live 48 or more hours.

2. Depending upon what type of sperm prep you do. Our RE does a special heated treated sperm prep where they also pick out all of the good ones and treat them so that they are ready to pemetrate an egg. Meaning that the outer membrane is taken off.
If you are simply having them washed... then I would still say that it should be prepped and the IUI done ASAP. When we just did the washed method... the sample was ready in 30 minutes.
3. IT IS WORTH IT! We were doing one IUI per cycle and the month that I INSISTED on a back-to-back is the month that we got pregnant with our son.
4. Here is an example... HCG Saturday night, IUI Sunday and Monday. You want as many sperm there as possible to meet up with the eggs. Yes, it is 36... I would do two insems.
