With the procedure itself... you are basically in the same position for a pap smear and a catheter with your husband's sample. The catheter is inserted into your uterus, the sample is injected, catheter removed and then you lay on the table for about 10-15 minutes. Get dressed and go home. I have done IUI a total of 6 times resulting in 2 pregnancies... i am waiting to find out if i have a third. fingers crossed. (although i have also had two miscarriages.)

Beeker725 nailed it. It is a fairly simple procedure - maybe a little cramping...nothing crazy. Then you wait to see if it worked. I will be having my 5th one this month - maybe this one will take! Are you taking any medications (Clomid, injectables)?

I took clomid for 6 months which did make me ovulate, but there is male factor too. we took this month off of medication to go into re with a clean slate. i didn't ovulate so i know i need medication. we are hoping to do injectables. i had an hsg done in december and that was incredibly painful, but tolerable all the same....so if it stays within that threshhold i'll be fine.

I just had my 1st IUI almost 2 weeks ago so I still don't know if mine worked. Beeker725 nailed it with her description. I had some cramping during the procedure and the rest of the day I took it easy but it's really not that bad. 10 mins and you're done! Good luck

One of the things my husband and I thought was cool...was the one nurse let us see the sperm under the microscope. It was pretty cool...all those swimmers.

I just had my first IUI last week. Beeker 725 did a great job of describing just what it is like. It was a little uncomfortable though. I am also taking clomid and used ovidrel so I did experience some hyperstimulation issues, but am fine now. Good luck!
