Is it too late?

Hello ladies...I'm kind of freaking out here & I really need some help. Last cycle I didn't have any follicles that were 20mm until cycle day 20...we took the trigger shot, did TIC, & had another failed round. The nurse told me that it probably didn't work because it was so late in my cycle. She said it is possible to conceive late in your cycle, but less likely & that is probably the cause of the failure. So THIS month we added a Gonal-F injection in with the Femara to try to get those puppies to develop earlier than CD20. Well I went in for my follicular sonogram on CD11 & nothing was big enough yet so they had me add 2 extra injections of Gonal-F & I went back on CD13 & had 2 follicles that were 20mm so we took the trigger shot & are doing TIC again but the nurse acted like this is still a little too late for comfort. She said "We really do like to see full 20mm follicles by CD11. I know this is still better than CD20 but I almost have myself convinced that it's still too late & we're wasting our time here only heading towards another failure & another BFN. IF we do fail again this cycle then next month our RE wants to try IUI. I hope we do get a BFP but I'm starting to have a hard time believing that will EVER happen.

Have any of you ever heard of 20mm follicles developing past CD11 really being that big of a problem? I don't understand why it makes such a difference when ovulation usually occurs on or around CD14 for a "normal" cycle anyway.

I also usually ovulate around cycle day 14. However, this month at cycle day 12 my follicles were at 10mm. Yesterday, at cycle day 18 I had two that were 22mm and a 17mm. So, I asked our Dr if there is cause for concern and she tells me no, that ovulating later (especially on clomid) shouldn't affect our chances of getting BFP. However, I've read that if there isn't atleast 10 days or so before af is due that you don't have time for implantation. Now, I know that clomid could make af come later, but how am I supposed to know? So, she is waiting for us to get a +opk because she says that then we know that my body is saying that those eggs are viable. UGH!! I hate waiting!
I am hoping that the follicles developing a little slower isn't bad, but i just don't know. Update me when you get more info (if you do) since we are in a similar situation.. :)

Hey doll, a question? How long do your cycles usually run? I usually ovulate on or around CD 16, the only concern my DR had about that is that I have a healthy Luteal Phase, and since my cycles usually run 31 days+, that is considered healthy. He said they want the LP to be at least 10 days long. I wish your DR and nurses would give you positive support, instead of putting doubt and worry into the IF mix!!

Thank you so much for your replies!! Mendolove, my cycles have varied from 30 days to 120 days long. But for the past several months (since I've been on Femara) they have been 32-34 days long.

Well with your cycles being 30+ days, sounds like your LP are a healthy lenght, So I can't see ovulating "later" would cause a problem. Hope this helps

It really does help, more than you know! I am so glad you told me about the LP & everything...I had no idea what could still be considered acceptable. Literally the only thing she told me at the appointment was, as I stated above: It's still possible to conceive with ovulation occurring later in your cycle, but less likely. That kind of knocked the wind out of my sails, feeling like our already diminished chances were only diminishing more because of my stupid long cycles. Hearing about the LP & thelowes, you telling me about the 10 days or so before af really helps. Since we did the trigger shot on CD13, that should have induced ovulation with 24-36 hours so that will leave 10ish days, possibly slightly less-hopefully not, before af is due, depending on how late she decides to show this time.

So now I'm just doing the dreaded 2ww. We find out in 10 days, on St. Patrick's day!! Which is awesome because that's my favorite holiday! Well...it will be awesome if I get a BFP...otherwise it just might ruin my favorite holiday. OH something interesting: my Dr. told me that if I DO conceive this round, guessing my conception date based on when I should have ovulated after the trigger shot, my due date would be 12/12/12. Neat, right? LOL

LOL nope, no alcohol for me at all! Ya know...we've been trying for 31 months now & with each new cycle or round of treatments I do get a renewed sense of hope BUT for some reason I have never been more hopeful about it than I have been with this cycle for these past few days. I'm not sure what happened, really nothing did, but a few days ago I just started feeling sooo encouraged & like I really will get good news this time. I'm SO scared of getting my hopes up...because if I really do get another BFN I'm only going to "fall" even harder since my hopes are getting up higher than normal. It's important to try to remain positive too, but I'm still scared that I shouldn't be getting my hopes up for fear of them getting let down yet again. Oh well, I have to stop worrying about that, I need to accept wherever this sense of hope is coming from & just embrace it. COME ON BFP'S FOR EVERYONE! lol Oh how I wish!!

Uhhhhg 10-days from now seems like an eternity!
Bah! Just sent over a sh*te-load of lucky four-leaf clovers for some IF GOOD LUCK on Sheila-Na-Gig's Day---errrr, I mean 'St. Patrick's Day', when you find out!

And yes lots of BFPs for everyone are the well-wishes from me! :-D
