I'm glad I found a support group because I'm the only person in my family/friends who is dealing with inferility. As my husband and I started this journal, we discovered I had fibroids. We did one IUI with clomid but it was not successful. I had a myomectomy Sept 2011 and another failed IUI as we speak (I'm starting my cycle). I have an appointment with my specialist Monday. I was doing some reading and I'm thinking about asking her to give me a trigger shot. My question is what are injectables? Do I still use clomid? All together? I'm confused and I really dont have much money to continue down this path. Prior to me marrying my husband, he has a daughter and she is 10 yrs old now...I feel incomplete, sad, and confused. My husband tries to comfort me but he dont understand...I will be 33 this year.
I used a trigger shot (Ovidrel) with both my medicated IUIs. I took Clomid days 3-7 or 4-8 of my cycle, went in for an ultrasound on day 11 or 12, and then triggered the night of my ultrasound. Then I went in about 40 hours after the trigger shot for the IUI. The trigger shot guarantees you will ovulate your ripe egg(s) within ~48 hours of the shot being administered. The ultrasound verifies when you’re ready to trigger.
Using “injectables” for fertility drugs is different. You would use those instead of taking Clomid. Were you ovulating when taking Clomid? If so, I don’t really see a reason to switch to injectables unless your doc gives you a specific reason to switch.
The trigger shot ensures that you ovulate within a specific timeframe after you give yourself the shot, so that your IUI can be perfectly timed. I never ovulated on my own without a trigger shot (no LH surger, no positive ovulation test), so I always have a trigger shot about 36 hours before an IUI. If you aren't sure about ovulation timing, a trigger shot would definitely be helpful to make things precise. The price of the trigger shot can vary. From a regular pharmacy, it will probably be about $140-$190. There may be some better deals online. It was cheapest for me to buy it directly from my clinic, costing $90. So you might want to ask if you can buy it at your doctor's office and how much they would charge.
