Thanks, another question. My insurance pays for diagnostic testing, but no infertility (IUI, IVF, etc) SO I assumed that if I went to an RE for a consultation I would have to pay out of pocket. Do you guys know if thats true?

Yes out of pocket,,, I had my lap done and had blocked tubes and alot of scaring also. removed worst tube and gave me a 50 50 chance,,, well now off to IVF in oct. and no insurance so everything will be out of pocket. Good luck sweetie!

I'm very lucky that I live in Connecticut, which is a mandate state for fertility treatments. I called my insurance and asked what they covered for testing, RE and treatments. I also researched the area for reputable REs. I found a wonderful place that has good success rates. Good luck to you and sticky baby dust.

Despite the fact that my insurance won't cover infertility treatment, it does pay for diagnostic testing - and since my RE is in-network, I just pay the office-visit co-pay ($15). I am also lucky that they are covering meds very well- just the usual co-pays depending on which tier they are on ($10-40, depending on the type) - this was a pleasant surprise since I originally thought they wouldn't since they said they don't cover treatment. When I first started with all of this, I got my diagnostic codes and all the possible procedure codes from my RE and called my insurance company to make sure I knew what they would and would not cover. Unfortunately, we have spent a lot on procedures they do not cover at all - IUIs and IVF.

When I was looking for a specialist, I went to this website (www.sart.org). You can find all of the practices that are members of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology. There's lots of educational info in the patient section and you can get all kinds of data from the various clinics/practices. I found it really helpful to look at the data when I was choosing a new doc recently.

My insurance does not pay for treatments put diagnostic testing. But the good news is they do cover my re. Check into different re in your area that you may like to go to and then call your insurance to see if they are covered. Good luck!

There is only one in the ENTIRE state of Idaho so my selection process was easy - but the normal way I would proceed should I have options, is to schedule appointments to meet with each of them in their office to just discuss the situation and what they would suggest for a course of action. Ask about financing options and assistanct, timing, requirements, tests they would run, etc. That initial consult can take up to 1/2 an hour each but will give you a GREAT idea of their bedside manner and will help you decide who to go with.

We needed a referral by our PCP. Our clinich has a number you call and you tell them what you want, starting when and for how many visits. We decided on an RE based on SART results and location and ease of accessing based on our jobs.

Our insurance also covers testing and consultation, but not the actual IV procedure. (It does cover IUI but that wasn't a good choice for us) The office also did research to determine exactly what was covered for us as well. They are very careful in making sure that as much is covered as possible.

I have to say that I very much appreciate the assistance becuase literally I had no clue what to do!!
