Hi momhopes. Once you have your consult you can get started with your next period. From start to retrieval it can take any where from 4 to 6 weeks.

I just went through our first IVF cycle and I was so worried about how long it would take. It honestly went by so fast and now here I am waiting to find out. You are so busy with all of the shots that it kind of takes your mind off of everything. Good luck!

hi on my 1st cycle my RE put me on bcp for three weeks,my 2nd cycle he did not put me on the pill,now i am on the pill again for the 3rd cycle,i responded better to meds after the bcp. good luck.

I just finished my first IVF cycle.

I did the "long lutheal/lupron protocol"..I think.

As far as the actual IVF cycle, which began after 5 months of testing to assess me for ability and suitablity for pregnancy.

I got my period Oct 16th,
started IVF meds (Lupron injections) Nov 5th.
got a period on Nov 16th,
Started Gonal F Nov 20th,
Did Trigger shot Ovidrel Nov 29th,
Egg Retrival Dec 1st,
PGD testing Dec 4th,
Embryo transfer Dec 6th,
First Beta (HCG) Blood test Dec 16th.
Second Beta Dec 21.

And so on.

Now, that all said each cycle in each woman can cary dependant on how you respond to each of the medications to supress and stimulate your ovaries.

My cycle was very close to average time for the protocol I did.
There are different protocols too, which I am sure may vary in length.

I did not go on Birth Control Pills....
...though I wish I could, using condoms so I don't get pregnant is so not what you expect to have to do when you're finally married and trying for a baby.

Ohhh the irony.

My first IVF, I had to take BCP (before starting Lupron). I am starting number two next month and there won't be any BCP (Ganirelex) so it will probably be based on your medication regime and how reliable your cycle is. Also, we had to attend a class first to get prepared.
Once it got started, it was the longest month of our lives. My DH and I always joked that time stands still in the Land of IVF. GL.

Our first RE consult took 3wks to get the appointment.
That first appointment was May 19th 09
and we started the Shots as I laid out for you above Nov 5th.
Also I wanted to add that I did progesterone shots starting on the day of egg retrival(after procedure).

That was our first IVF cycle, and it ended in Christmas Eve miscarriage, and so now I am waiting to get my first period after that and then we'll be starting again.
From that period we'll wait 21 days before starting the injections again.

Please relax and when it feels like you're waiting too long, then this is what I do;

I've just decided to keep going constantly with IVF for 2 years, that seems like a long time...
...so I think back 2 years.
2 years ago I was engaged on Christmas Eve to my wonderful husband who I married in july 08...it's really not that long ago, it all seems like a few months ago.

So 2 years from now won't be so far away.

Hi there. I see that you were supposed to have your consult on the 7th. My husband and I are going on the 25th for our first appointment ever with the RE. We know already that our only hope is IVF, so we've got to go straight for the big guns. Might you have any adivce or insight that could be helpful? I am so nervous about it all. Thanks!
