Roxy ~ For me the shot itself has not been bad at all.... though I do have quite a bit of junk in my trunk ;o) I think the key has been keeping the side that the shot is going into totally relaxed.

I would personally not use ice. The oil in the medication will give you knots and lumps if you do that. Warm up the vial in your hands before the shot. Have your husband give a really good massage of the area after the shot to help dispurse the meds. Even use a warm cloth or sit on a heating pad if you start to feel lumps.

What Jackie said 100%. I have DH warm up the vial for 5-10 minutes, then I draw up the shot and have him warm up the shot another 5 minutes. After he gives me the shot we do a massage or i put a med-to hot wet cloth on it for about 5-10 minutes.

Ice will give you bumps, and honestly if the alcohol in your skin is dry - have DH fan the area after wiping it - the needle you barely feel it.

Other than what Chefgrrl said another key thing is to make sure you stay within the circle and don't go too high. I too have junk in my trunk! Good luck!

My nurse always had me stand on the opposite leg from the shot and then turn the foot of the shot leg slightly inward. Also, I slightly leaned onto a dresser/chest of drawers.

They also say to walk around afterwards to get a little movement into the muscle. I don't remember the exact explanation from my nurse but I remembered that instruction.

I alway had my nurse use a sharpie pen and draw the zone where it was acceptable to get the shot. I kept re-drawing the circles each day for a while until I got the hang of where to do them.

Don't panic if you start to bleed, just pull out the syringe and put on a new needle and try again.

Thanks girls. I'm kind of happy I'm not doing the suppositories 3 types a day again so I'm sure it will end up ok. Waiting for DH to be home so he can do it.

don't worry about the blood return, it's not really common. I also bleed a little afterwards because of the aspirin regimen. I find that if I enter the needle slowly it hurts less than if you go fast. But that's just me. Also leave the needle in there for a second after all the meds are in, and apply pressure right away when the needle comes out. It actually hurts less when I do it myself than when DH does it, which I only found out recently after weeks of doing the damn shot, but it keeps DH feeling important so I continue to let him take care of it. Good luck and can't wait to hear how it goes!! As annoying as they can be, they aren't near as "annoying" as the damn wet suppositories!

Ok ladies it's done ! Thanks for all your help. It really ended up being so easy. I have to say DH gives me shots like a pro.
Nelly, my instructions are to leave the needle in for 45 secondes after the shot. That's so much longer than you but you are right way better than the cream and so worth it if I get a BFP that actually sticks.
