I don't think anyone can "get over" not being able to have children. I think it will live with us forever, at least in my case.
I too am an only child, my mom died when I was 20 (I'm now 40) and I have never known my dad. So when I got married, I so badly wanted to have at least 2 children so I could make my own family and not feel so alone in the world. But here I am , years later and no children. No one around me has problems getting pregnant so I feel extra alone in this battle. My husband is so loving and says he doesn't care, but I know he does. It has got to the point where I don't share with him anymore. I cry when he is gone so he won't see me upset.
Grief is the right word. I hope things get better for you. We here all know the pain you're feeling. This is a great place to express your pain and feelings, it helps me ;)
You are not alone. You are NOT a burden to your husband. He loves you, and he is lucky to have you. Of all the women in the world, he picked YOU.
Have you considered talking to a therapist? Or seeking out a group for infertility? Do you have any friends who you can talk to? Do you have a creative outlet of some kind like art or journaling or dance class?
I wish I could make things better for you but I know I cannot. I do understand your pain, though, and I wish you peace and healing. I also feel like this infertility pain is a form of grief. It is a huge loss. Treat it as such and be kind to yourself.
