I was told at one time my husband's sperm tested positive for DNA fragmentation and that we had three options: donor sperm, adoption, or a child-free lifestyle. I freaked. I demanded retested and also sought out another facility to test my husband's sperm. We would not give up until we had all information and results. Turns out- the test came back fine and I have a son to show for our efforts. Get the information you need- then make a decision.
Get a second opinion, ask for more tests, seek out more information- do what you need to do. Advocate for yourself and find out the answers...

I did 3 rounds of clomid. I did not respond. My doc says there are a lot more options. I am now on letrozole and my doc says if that doesn't work there are other options before IVF, so I would def. not give up yet.

I am so sorry you just go this news but I would def encourage you to seek a second opinion. It can't hurt anything and maybe it will open new possibilities or at least answer some of those questions and what ifs you have in your mind and heart.
I can only imagine how difficult this must be for you and your hubby, know that you are not alone and there are some fan-freaking-tastic women on here that have beautiful babies via DE and others that will be having beautiful babies in the very near future by the grace of DE. I know that doesn't change the way you may feel but hopefully it will give you a little peace knowing that it is possible.

Don't give up! I wouldn't respond at all to clomid. Femara plus injectables did the trick.

I think it takes time to get to the point of being ok with the different options/paths. In the beginning, we think we wouldn't be open to things that later, we become ok with. If you aren't ready to consider donor eggs, if it still feels like giving up, that's ok. Don't go there yet. Are you in the middle of an IVF? Or is he talking future IVF try? If you aren't in the middle of a cycle, I'd say give it a few days, sit with everything, get more information/experiences from others who have been there. If you feel strongly about trying IVF, do it. Dr's opinion be damned. You do what YOU, in your heart, feel is right.
One thing I've learned is that you have to do what you feel in your gut is the right next step for you. This is your journey, your trial and struggle. At the end of your journey, you are the one who has to be able to look back with peace...no matter how it turns out.
Also, the emotions always come back. At every new fork in the road. We think we have them dealt with/beaten/figured out, but back they come.

We were two cycles away from ivf when we got our bfp. Our journey with if was short compared to most but emotionally draining- we spent the first year of marriage in and out of the docs office, messing with needles, and dealing with my wacked out hormones. Something that helped me was having a mapped out game plan. If 'a' happened, 'x' came next. We did this with the doc for every possible scenario and it helped lower my stress levels. I hope that you are able to find peace no matter where this crazy road takes you and that you are comfortable with the answers you get if you seek a second opinion.

I'm not a doctor but the amount of meds you are currently taking doesn't sound like the options that my doctor offered me. Are you taking those to try for and IUI or IVF? I would definately ask to be switched to Femara/Letrozole rather than the Clomid since there are several people on here who have had better results with that. After that you could go for a round of only injectibles the next month if that doesn't work because those are a much bigger boost. You have the probability of maturing more eggs, but this is what you would do in the case of IVF (possibly 250iu follistim for 2 weeks) anyway because you want to produce as many eggs as possible. I don't know your history or your egg count but I think you have a lot of options before looking at donor eggs. I think you should maybe try a new doctor since this one doesn't seem to be very flexible.
Have hope, let yourself feel sad/angry/crazy, then take a deep breath and continue on.

THANK YOU all for your replies!! They were TRULY uplifting! I am already in a better place. My husband and I came to terms that this fertility center is just not a good fit for us. They just do not seem sensitive to or seem to have much expertise with older women who have DOR. With a blocked tube as well, I am obviously a special case and my doctor acts as if everyone's situation is the same because he actually told my husband "if the meds aren't working, they aren't going to work no matter what the dosage". UMMM then why is there even an option to have higher dosages prescribed? Mind you, I was only taking injections for THREE DAYS when he was ready to cancel my 2nd cycle. Is that normal?? I'm the one who told him I would like to take the shots for a few more days and see what happens. He agreed, but said if no follies r showing then he will not agree to continue and that we should consider egg donors. Could you imagine??
Well, tomorrow I go in for b/w and u/s with my husband. We are prepared to walk out asking for my file and a refund for the money we paid for the full ivf process that never happened if they tell us this cycle is being cancelled. I also already have an appt. scheduled for a second opinion just in case. I am TAKING CHARGE and not letting "science" take over. My acupuncturist would be proud that I said that! LOL

I agree with many of the other ladies, and after reading your most recent response, it seems the clinic is really worried about their stats, and not at all about you. If he doesn't think it's going to go perfectly, he's not willing to follow through, and is pushing DE because it's VERY expensive and has a much higher success rate. Good for his stats, and his business. I agree with getting a second opinion, I think you will feel very refreshed having someone with new eyes looking into your case. You need to go for a second opinion STAT. How old are you?

I'm 43, I started cycling at 40. I've done up to 600/450 of follistim for about 10-12 days. You don't cancel a cycle after 3 days and not upping your dose is ridiculous. We were already successful with one IVF and are now going for a sibling.

Please seek a second opinion.

Glad you feel a bit better and more in control now, its amazing how doctors can screw with us so much and seem oblivious to the sort of impact they can have. I have had my fair share of melt downs and then looked at it slightly differently after a good nights sleep and a new perspective.
