Hey girl! Our insurance only covered my estrogen, progesterone in oil and progesterone suppositories which came to 130 some out of pocket...we took out a 10,000 loan for our IVF..we may owe a couple hundred still if we have any embryos left to freeze..we also had to pay a $500 check for the anesthesia...10,000 is scary but actually the payments were not as bad as we had thought a month! Sorry I can't help with the insurance part of it! Good luck to you!!

Oh and I forgot our meds for the stimulation of eggs ended up being free because we got into a clinical trial! Saved us 5,000! I'm so thankful for that!!

I was quoted $18,000 for IVF, including genetic testing, of which my insurance would cover half and it wouldn't go towards my out of pocket max.

I had a nightmare of an insurance experience!

My IVF, plus ICSI and CCS, was almost $40K. When we first decided to go for IVF, I called my insurance carrier, and they told me TWICE that fertility, other than the meds, was covered, so we expected not to exceed our annual out of pocket maximum, other than the meds, which we understood to be about $8K. They told the business office at the fertility center the same thing. Then, when it came time to get pre-authorization for the procedure, they denied it, saying that IVF wasn't covered. Apparently, it's a mistake they make often. There is a separate rider on the insurance policy, and in order for the coverage to exist, the rider has to be purchased. It had not been. Also, the rider only provides for a $2,000 lifetime maximum of coverage... as if that actually covers anything.

I ended up fighting the insurance company, trying to get them to make good on what they'd told me. I mean, telling a woman with fertility issues that her expensive treatment is covered and then saying "oops, my bad - I didn't read the whole thing" is unacceptable. It cost us six valuable months, but in the end, they ponied up about $12K. Our personal cost has been about $27K thus far. Not cheap - but worth it if we end up with a baby.

I was told that they covered it as well but I have a gut feeling that we're going to be spending ALOT of money... I dont understand why insurance companies cover ways to prevent children but not ways to conceive. Its really horrible and extremely frustrating

I totally agree! There are so many women who are in this boat. We seem to be largely ignored. Many companies even offer adoption assistance. But I donut know if anyone who offers infertility assistance.

Hey there, our first time was basically covered not including any meds, 2nd and 3rd were out of pocket.. refinanced the house also.. hang in there. Mandells pharmacy has a great cash program and helps out a ton.

I know a few ladies, who have undergone IVF in Polish top IVF clinic, and paid about 2 500 Euros for ivf pgs ngs with meds. IVF in Europe is much much cheaper. x

Insurance companies suck that way. I only got things paid for if it was titled a certain way and it could not say I had a infertility diagnosis or it wouldn't be paid. So stupid they pay to find out if there is a problem but after that nothing is covered. I had one HSG, which my insurance company only pays 100% for one lifetime, and it didn't work. My OB wanted me to go to an RE that maybe able to do it. I got the HSG prior auth with a letter explaining why a second one was done and they gave approval. I had to fight with them for a whole year on why they needed to pay it and thankfully got the bill down to me only owing around $300 so stopped fighting it. They pay nothing on IUI or IVF so that would be all out of pocket. It makes no sense to me and why some insurances cover fertility while others don't. Best of luck to you that is the hardest part so far for me is deciding how much I want to spend and where I want to spend the money (IUI, IVF or adoption).
