So this morning I found myself in a mess of tears, feeling sorry for myself with another BFN. Adding to this disappointment was a truly ego-crushing, self-confidence diminishing email from one of my Dissertation committee members who ripped me apart and basically made me feel competely inadequate.
Yes, I got really sad, but you know what? Then, I got really angry. Angry in a good way though. Sometimes I think that we need to get in touch with that fighter we have within, the one who says "oh yeah, you think I can't do this, well screw you, watch me!"
So for anyone else who may need a reminder that when life, or a BFN, punches you in the face, we can fall down and give in, or we can punch back!

I'm sorry for your BFN...and the dissertation set-back. That is tough timing having that all hit you at once. Sending you hope for next month and your next meeting. Thanks for sharing your wisdom.
(I also hope, if I get a BFN on Monday, I can find that inner fighter!)
For a few minutes there I just wanted to throw in the towel all the way around, however that didn't feel so great. I suppose it's a good thing that I've always been quite a stubborn woman. Telling me I can't succeed is like waving a red flag in front of a bull :-)
And here's to hoping that you don't need that warrior energy on Monday, and that you find yourself holding a BFP!! Sending good thoughts your way.
For the dissertation - I hear you on that one. Intense critism is unfortunately part of the process and not one I'm particularly enjoying anymore at this point either. Providing feedback is a bit of an art and seems it's not one your committee member is much good at. While we know we're in for being challenged and possible some sharp criticism, I think there is an obligation to deliver the messages in as constructive a way as possible. There is absolutely no reason to make anyone feel inadequate... but some academics are on a bit of a power trip. Also, disagreements and differing points of views are allowed, so they shouldn't be discouraged. I'm so sorry you had to experience that. Know that you are one smart, competent and capable woman - you wouldn't have come this far if you weren't so don't let this guy get you down!!
