My husband and I have told our friends and family about our IF and IVF. Sometimes they ask questions about it and I start talking and before I know it they know the whole process. For me this is very therapeutic to talk about it. And it feels good that we have lots of support and prayers. My mom is the only one I avoid talking to about it because she starts crying (my mom is not a crier at all so it makes it hard on me). I have learned to stand up for myself (especially with my mom) and tell people what I need in them. If I don't want to talk about it, I just tell them I am not in the mood to talk, but please ask me again later or I just avoid the subject. Sometimes when I need to talk about it, I bring it up. My family and friends are very supportive and most of the time they say things that help me feel better. Sometimes they say the wrong things (especially my mom), but I know they are just trying to help so I try not to get mad and upset. I just walk away. I believe telling people is a very personal choice and you have to be ready for the questions and be okay to talk about it. I had to wait until I didn't cry every time I thought about it.

I have also talked about it with coworkers ( I work with all women so news spreads). Many of my coworkers have come to me because they are going through the same thing or just starting the IF process. It is so nice to talk to people outside of DS that understands how you feel and what you are going through.

My DH and I have been very selective about who we told about our IF. I have a few friends that have also experienced this, so it is nice to be able to depend on them. I have intentionally kept this from other people, as I am uncertain as to how they would react or if they would be able to be supportive. I definitely cannot tell my co-workers, because if my boss found out, she would make my life so much more difficult (sad, but true!) However, when I am with someone that I trust and feel like I can share this with, it can feel like a weight momentarily lifted off my shoulders when I can tell them what is happening and how I am feeling.

Wow those are some real great ideas,I tried to talk about how it felt to be childless, with my honey.And I couldn't stop,bringing tears to my eyes.Being pregnant and know how it feels to be without a successful pregnancy...somehow stays within your memories and thoughts.It's not something that you have and got rid of. But it's a process and sometimes....it's not the easiest thing to discuss with people.

It is good to have friends or family to talk to during this journey. I did tell many of my friends and family members. There are a few of them I wish I would not have told because they are not supportive and they seem to always say hurtful things. But I do have friends and family that are really there for me and it means so much to have them. I would just be selective about who you tell. Praying for you!!

I've told my Mom and that is it. My husband and I decided not to share with anybody for a variety of reasons. 1) people will talk about you behind your back like they pity you. 2) friends/family with children start to treat you different and 3) my husband and I are doing IUI and possibly will move to IVF in next few months and the chance of multiples are high. We don't want people telling our potential children that they are "lab babies". That is personal and for us to share with them should we choose, not to ever come from anybody else, even if it was told to them in good faith. You don't want your friends telling thier kids and then thier kids saying to your kids someday, "my mommy says you were made in a plastic dish".

I can tell ,that you are very caring and think outside of the box.
You stated your views and how you felt and where you stand.

It takes guts to be comfortable and express yourself to others.
I would like to get to that point!
