Excited but Nervous!

After being told in july our only option to have a child would be ivf I was devastated. My husband didn't really talk about it much due to the factI think he was hurt as well. So now we have discussed it and are looking to start our process this year. I am so excited but also very nervous because we have no idea what to expect. All I know is that we are ready. i was wondering if any of you could offer me any advice or share your positives as well as negatives with me?

Welcome! Well, the best positive I can share was the blessing of a successful first round IVF cycle! My son is now 21 months old and I couldn't be more blessed. I am now going through an FET to try for another. That said, IVF was a roller coaster for me. The "What if" question was the hardest. What if it doesn't work...then I'd be stressed and nervous. What if it DOES work...then I'd be excited and anxious. The meds were scary for me, lots of needles and injections, but now I am a pro. ;-) I was working full-time at the time and it was a challenge balancing work and IVF (ultra-sounds, blood work, etc...but, mostly I was able to schedule ultra-sounds/bloodwork first thing in the morning, so I wouldn't even miss work, or I'd be slightly late). I also didn't tell my boss or anyone at work what was going on, which was stressful simply because my boss felt that he and others at my company should know what was going on in my life...Ummm, NO. So, dealing with him was a pain. My RE also stimmed me pretty heavily and my ovaries got HUGE and I looked like I was already 3 months pregnant. I had no idea I had the strenth it takes to go through IVF, but I did it and I'm so grateful that I did...I have a son. Good luck to you, and a little advice is to make sure you have a good RE, try to be positive and excited about the process, but don't worry if you have emotional days, don't worry if things get delayed in your cycle, it happens, don't hesitate to ask questions, make sure your husband is involved and supportive (vice versa) and, come here whenever you have questions or need support! IVF has great odds...there are many, many women on here that have become mom's because of IVF. The obvious negatives are the price, especially if you don't have insurance coverage. I would suggest finding a Reproductive Endocrinologist (RE) that you trust with strong success rates. Sart.org is a great place to start to find someone in your area. And if your RE office offers a mock IVF you should definitely do it. Be prepared for lots of tests and blood work, but once that is done you'll be on our way! I've done IVF twice now (one m/c, one negative) so if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Very excited for you!

I was also told in July that my only option to get pregnant would be IVF. I was also devastated. Anyway, IVF sounds quite overwhelming to me as well. I hope the best for you!
