I had this done before my second IVF. Just a warning, it was rather painful, but for like 5-10 seconds max and the pain was gone. But it was pretty intense.

I ended up having zero embryos to transfer, so I can not say it helped with implantation or not. But I know there are a lot of docs that believe it does help. Good luck!

I just had one done on Monday but my RE didn't say it had anything to do with helping implantation she just said it was to test my lining to make sure it was a hospitable environment for implantation.

When do they do the scrapping for the IVF cycle?

It was painful but once she was done it went a way a couple minutes later and I had a little bleeding after.

Lmwt- I'm sorry to hear you didn't have any embryos to transfer. That must have been hard for you.
Hope- I actually did my first one last Friday while I was still on the bcp. You're both right it only felt like intense cramps for like 15 seconds and the pain was gone. I do my second one this Friday, just finishing Aunt Flo and fri will be day 9 of lupron. Praying this helps us but we shall see.

Hi. I had this done with my second RE (who I ultimately got pregnant with). He does this procedure routinely and believes that it does increase chances of pg.
As his staff explained it - if you take a good plant and put it in sub par soil, don't expect it to thrive.
In my case, he found that I had a slightly inflamed uterus. After 3 IUI's & 4 IVF's, I got pregnant my first cycle with him (an IUI, as he was convinced i didn't need IVF) and now have a happy, healthy 3 yr old boy.
I can say 100% that this was the key to the successful cycle, but I don't care because I got my baby!

The very night before my endometrial biopsy, I decided to look up as much information as I could about the procedure itself. Our fertility clinic had provided some literature but I felt like it was not enough information and quite frankly, simple. I stuck to the resources I'm familiar with, papers, journals and medical sites online. My husband and I are both health care professionals and I thought if I understood the procedure better i.e what tools they used, how they actually retrieved the sample, I would be more comfortable. The truth is, it made me nervous because I knew it was not going to be pain free but it also put me at ease because I knew a little bit of what to expect.
I never even thought to come and check out the discussion board, I didn't think anyone was really talking about the biopsy and judging by the fact this thread is almost a year old, I was kind of right? So 1-day post procedure here I am.
I should've checked these boards, I think I would have been better prepared for the 'discomfort'... okay 'pain' that I felt. One hour before the procedure I took Advil as recommended (although I did take a little more as 400mg does nothing for me). The truth is the procedure is quick, while the doctor is accessing the cervix to get into the uterus the discomfort is minimal, an awkward discomfort but not really that 'painful'. My doctor did warn me ahead of time that once she went through the cervix it would be likely painful, she had one done herself and the pain and discomfort is not easily describable, she said. She was right, some say it can feel like medium menstrual cramps...well for someone who doesn't have bad cramps.....this TO ME was unlike any cramps I have ever experienced. Usually during my period I will have some very mild cramping, but this was slap your doctor in the face pain, FOR ME.
HOWEVER, IT LASTED LITERALLY FOR 5 SECONDS. Then it was over and I sat up maybe 1 minute later. The doctor warned me there might be some spotting but more than 24 hrs later, not even 1 drop. The procedure went very smoothly and either than that 5 seconds, I tolerated it very well.. I think. It also helped that she talked to me the whole time, was very reassuring and very gentle.
I hope that anyone reading this thread at a later time might find this helpful but just keep in mind that this was my experience.

I had an endometrial biopsy (but not scraping done). For me, it was intensely painful - like severe cramps (what I picture labor to feel like). it seemed like it went on forever and I felt like once I got up after the procedure was finished that there would be a lot of blood, there wasn't even a drop. My RE didn't suggest I take Advil or anything.
My advice would be to definitely take Advil or Aleve before this procedure and be prepared that it is incredibly uncomfortable at best and very painful at worst.

Sorry, I can't be more reassuring, but this was my most physically painful infertility "test". I do have a tipped uterus, so maybe that has something to do with the pain, I'm not sure.

Hi I was wondering why people were responding to this post a year later! It is def uncomfortable but unpregnantiguana...but like you said it lasts for like 5 seconds. I found focusing on the deep breathing helped me. Our transfer was a success after the scraping btw, but I miscarried at 7wks. Good luck to you!
