Emotionally All In?

Hello All,

I am about to start my first IVF cycle (I start meds on 6/18). I've gotten over most of my anxiety and am on the upside of the rollercoaster.

But I am having an emotional ping pong match between my heart and my brain as to what outlook I should have.

My heart wants to go all in, believe 1000% in the baby that will be, think of what he/she will look like, how happy everyone will be when we share the news, how fabulous our lives will be, basically go overboard on optimism.

My brain is telling me there are no guarantees and I should be more conservative because if I don't get the BFP my heart will break.

I'm pretty sure either way I go, if I get a BFN my heart will hurt.

Does anyone have an advice on how to not to get too emotionally attached but still stay positive?

That was something that I really struggled, and still am struggling with. I know how you feel. I decided to go on the positive side for a few reasons. One being that I feel the embryo has a better chance of taking when you are more relaxed and positive, and secondly, I just couldn't justify giving myself all of those injections and having such crazy mood swings and hormones if it was all for nothing. I kept thinking, okay, this is really hard, but I have a good chance of getting pregnant.

I am nearing the end of my IVF cycle. I am waiting to do my first Beta on Thursday to see if they took. So, I can't tell you if my positivity has helped, but I'm hoping so!

I am cautiously optimistic. I stay positive and am excited about this cycle, but know in the back of my mind that it might not work. I try to stay busy and only think about IVF if I have to. It is easier for me to do this this cycle (this is our 2nd, first was BFN). Good luck with everything!
