I found out last week I'm having an ectopic. If this was a normal pregnancy I'd be at about 11 weeks right now. It took them so long to diagnose because my numbers were going down at first and they thought it was another chemical pregnancy. After I never stopped lightly bleeding I called them and they did another beta and it had gone up. Last check it was 1169. My RE insists at this level it is too small to rupture my tube but I am so nervous about it. I had a methotrexate shot on Friday. They don't want to see me again till Thursday for a beta. Now every time I have a twinge of pain I freak out. Can anyone who has been through this share their experience? I really need to calm down about this!

I've had 2 ectopics - both caught weeks earlier but both required emergency surgery so I've not had the shot. Have they done vaginal ultrasound to check size, or for internal bleeding?

One of the key signs is shoulder pain - this is caused by internal bleeding. In my case I hesitated because it wasn't quite pain, but more of a funny feeling. It's at the top of the shoulder - not like normal internal shoulder pain from push ups or computer work. It's around where the bra strap would be. I think that the shoulder pain can be on either side, not necessarily the side with the ectopic.
I also was very lightheaded. Not quite dizzy, but felt really week and fuzzy.

The last time I had an ectopic the ob-gyn thought I was paranoid. I finally went to the ER - because the extreme lightheadedness hit on a Saturday when their office was closed.

I am so sorry you're going through this - having the fear added to the disappointment is just awful. I don't think you should panic, and chances are good that your RE is correct, but if you get these additional symptoms beyond twinges I think you should call them.

I had an etopic last year and luckily I was only about 6 weeks when I started having pain in my lower right side...not like a cramp, but more of a pain. I had a couple of vaginal ultrasounds and sure enough, there was the little one, making a little home in my right tube. I did have to get the shot and within a day or two there was no more pain. It did take around 1 week for my HCG to get back to normal, below 5.
So don't panic, but if you need to talk to you doctor or nurse for reassurance, call them, that's why they are there.
